Thanks for the encouragement.

Oh sorry I didn't say, but those are 280zx front brakes that are going to going on the coil overs.

I'm also talking to somebody about buying some 15inch Z enkie mesh wheels.

All images are click able for bigger versions.

So which struts/brakes would you want on your car.
Stock 510 non-vented 9 inch rotors

Coil overs and vented 10 inch rotors?

I got a freebie '73 datsun pickup a couple months ago. It has the 1600cc engine, L16? Anyway, it sat outside, not running, since 1985. I replaced the fuel pump, hoses, gave it a tune up and the thing fired right up, runs like a champ. Ive always liked old datsuns, especially 510s and after getting this little ranch wagon going with such little effort Im definately impressed with them. Theres a good chance Ill probably try and pick up a 510 one of these years.

I would love to get a 521 in the future for little stuff around the house, would love to throw in a vg or vq in it, but I know my wife would kill me. If you want check out http://forum.ratsun.net/index.php There are quite a few 521 and 620s on the forum.

The wifey is my problem as well :). I already have the protege5, a '67 el camino, the datsun 620, and my work vehicle, an '89 ford superduty. She does not see the point in me getting any new vehicles. Everything i have is either restored or modded enough for the most part. i like having the datsun, but it is never going to be a street vehicle again. I dont have the title to it, the original owners are dead. The sons just wanted it off the property so they gave it to someone who gave it to me. Im just using it to haul and run stuff around the farm. I think she is starting to understand that I need to have a project to work on in my free time or i go nuts, so we'll see.;)

My wife is the same. She figured better me sitting at home working on an car then out at bars getting drunk. So there is no way to try and get the title for the 620? I would love to see another 620 on the road. I want one more then the 521.

Here is my near future 510

So here is a picture of the 510 I will hopefuly be buying from my old boss in a few weeks. It has an L20 with Solex Sidedrafts. I am not sure what has been done wit hte suspension, but you can tell from the pictures that it needs the rear cross member slotted. I am not sure how involved that is. If it doesnt already have them, I will put power brakes in, prolly with bigger vented front discs and a rear disc conversion. Anyone have experience with that?

oh and has anyone seen this? The most badass 510 ever built, too bad it has a carb'd rotory, but hey, that is Mazda Powered....

Oh ya I've been looking at bryans 510 years before I got mine.

That dime looks pretty good.

As for the suspension well it all depends on what you want to do. There are quite a few options out there. 200sx (80's models) and 280zx struts swap over once you cut off the springs and weld on coil overs like I did. Which in turn will let you run their brakes. Rear brakes you will need ot get caliper brackets but you can find some at http://www.datsuns.com/as for the rear crossmember, slotting it isn't really hard, but not really all that reccomended. What I did does take a lot of work, but if you go to http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/ and sign up for the news letter and get some of the older issues you will be good to go. make sure to check out www.the510realm.com

it already has 280 struts up front, but the rear is stock except for cut springs and gas shocks. No details on the motor yet, but after reading this
http://www.the510realm.com/index.ph...torder=asc&highlight=jdm+tail+lights&start=60
I think I want to actually do an SR swap. Dont know where to get one or he ECU, but I have a connection to a guy in north carolina who buys rebuildable motors from japan and sells them here.

sweet. Thats cool it already has 280 struts. If you check out the dime quarterly they have instructions how to make rear brackets for 82-83 280 brakes. Or check out datsuns.com they have brackets you can order for 200sx or maxima rear brakes.

I was originally going with the SR, but they I jumped ship and staying loyal to the KA :). If you do go SR make sure you get everything, motor/tranny/harness/ecu/ignitor/maf. The last parts can be expensive. Luckly they have found ways to make z32 maf and ignitors work, but they are not that much cheaper.

I have a source for direct import engines and trannies in North Carolina.
He can get me a late 90's motor with EVERYTHING, and to top it off, he said he will giv eme the friend price of $500 incl Shipping.

OH MAN! I vow to have the fastest 510 in Northern Cal by summer 2008.
Done.

Oh its cool man I was just playin around.

As for whats a good year for SR, I would probably go with the black top s13 motor check out http://www.heavythrottle.com/ they have good info about the motors. But if I remember correctly most people go with the s13 if your going with big horse power since then you don't have to worry about the variable time on the s14 and s15 motors. Don't forget the rear end though, the stock r160 will NOT hold up to any real power.
