Sorry but you are incorrect to a point. There is no size 18" tire that you could run comfortably on an 18" wheel that will not lift a protege.
here is a screen shot and sorry its a .4" difference not 3/4"

I run that size(stock for the LX) in the winter 185/65/R14
And just in case you don't believe me on the stock size.
From Tire Rack:
Original Equipment Size: 185/65-14
you would have to run a 215/30/R18 or 205/35/R18 tire which are almost non-existent in order to maintain a very close to stock height with 18s.
So basically to run 18s and maintain a stock height you would have to basically find a very rare tire.
