after putting the mille miglia action sport on my car, i have a hard time getting the car going now. the wheels and tires weigh 49 pounds at each corner. the stockies were about 36 pounds. can the 13 pounds be making that much of a difference? it feels like the car can't get to 3K rpm's very easily anymore. after 3500rpms, the car feels like it gets a boost of power somehow. what's going on?

Overall tire diameter and weight do play a huge part in your response of the motor! You add 26lbs. more to the drivetrain not to mention changing your overall gear ratio a small amount which is why your top end feels better now(this is all on the assumption you went from 16's to 17's you did not specify)

Agreed. And he added 52 lbs to unsprung weight, not 26!!

This is your problem. Get those heavy ass wheels / tires off there!

Sorry Mackdaddy i was referring to just the extra weight put on the drive wheels but you are correct in saying he did add 52 extra lbs. of unsprung weight in the worst spot possible DIRECTLY ON THE DRIVETRAIN! YES find yourself some lighter wheels! L8ter!

which ones would you guys recommend? i just laid down $500 for the rims i have now, so it's gonna be a while before i can get some new ones. thanks for the clarification by the way. unsprung weight = baaaad. got it.

Not touch'n that one

Wheels are such a personal choice, I'll leave that up to you. Just try and stay at, or below the OE wheel weight (16 lbs each.)

Mille Miglia wheels are known to be heavy. Sure they look nice, but see what happens? Live and learn....

Good luck,
Jim

You might also want to get your wheels aligned. I just recently found out that just a tad bit too much toe out will make your car a DOG.

oz superleggra... one of the lightest wheels on the market today. something from volk or advan, both make light racing wheels. or try to find an MSP owner who will unload the Racing Harts. those are i think like 20-30 lbs.

Nah, this is just a higher power telling you that you need to get a turbo in order to compensate for those heavier wheels:D

the rims bring it to a whole new level of slow. i mean, sheesh! i thought the car was slow before... now it's like a tortoise in the sahara! badoomp bedoomp badoomp bedoomp... i got outlaunched by a saturn! no lie! he got a half car length in front of me before my car caught up and passed him on the way to 50mph. my girlfriend was laughing at me the whole time! i need me some rotas or something. i can't afford the volks. the car looks sweet now, but it's all show and no go. soo yeah, after i do my exhaust, downpipe and header, i'll save up for better rims. gosh, soooo embarrassing with my girl saying, "you got beat by a saturn... you got beat by a saturn... oh my gosh, your car is so slow!" i didn't appreciate that one bit!
