17k on car tread is almost gone.

Is this normal? Good Lord... Just dinged 17k miles on my car (and the original tires) and the tread is all but gone.

I looked up the local authorized bridgestone dealer to go ask them about a warranty pro-rate on new tires. The guy called someone up and gave him my tire and car type and the guy said that there is no warranty on these.

I was expecting to get at least 25k out of the tires but doesn't look like that is happening... for those of you that have been in this situation, what did you do? How much did you pay for your new tires when the time came?

My tread looked low when I pulled it off the showroom floor. I'm thinking what everyone says is true, bad tires!

Tires are not bad.... They are a high performance summer only tire with a 140 tread wear rating. Anything past 12-15k miles is above average. Trade off for its performance potential....

I'm at 25k and the whole outside tread is gone on two of the tires. Now I just wait for student loan refunds.

normal if not better

Had the same rubber on my GXP. All of us GXP'ers have spent some bucks on new tires. In our case the off-set size and specific TPC code on them made them extremely pricey. Many have gone to other makes. I got 12k out of my fronts then, but I did go to the track a couple times.

Not sure what I'll do when these summer tires are over with. The dilemma I'm in is what to do overall. I only drive about 6-7k per year, so not much at all. Should I go separate winter tires / wheels now or just sell the stock ones that have only 500 miles on them and get a good all season performance tire and not worry about jacking around with extra wheels...hmmm......not sure yet.
