I'm thinking of purchasing a set of wheels for track use.
I'm thinking 16x7 rims with 45mm offset and 225/50/16 tires. would it fit??

16's will fit. There are plenty of people using Protege 5 and ES rims on their MSP for Winter/Track tires. I'm almost positive that a 15" rim will NOT clear the brake calipers. A 16" will fit fine.

There are people here successfully running 15 inch steel wheels with snows. I suppose you could have a clearance issue with certain 15 inch alloys wheels, but probably not.

The 16 inch wheels from the P5 fit. Many folks using them in winter here on their MSP's.

i was pretty sketchy looking into winter tires and rims. but after a few posts i decided to go with the fifteens. they actually fit i was suprised:D .
no problems so far!!!!

i say dont get 16's and get 15's

you will save money on the wheels and the 15's are lighter and 15 inch race tires are a lot cheaper than 16's...

this spring im dowsizing to 15's....

10lb wheels and 205/45/15 azenis sports daily..

and 225-235 / 45 /15 race tires....

mp3's and msp's have the same brakes; no difference other than paint on the calipers.
