Model years 13-15 would have the GPS hardware there, if the car was equipped. Since that's now integrated into the head unit they put a weird cubby thing there.

Yes Mazda listened and did some update to it with "Kodo - Soul of Motion" design language - by completely eliminated it like the side profile with the "swoop" on styling!

Yes, coins, gum, garage opener, Coffee Punch Card, etc.
This is all in there and stays in there just fine when the wife drives the car...
When I drive, nearly all of the items get launched out when I take off quickly at a stop sign on the first hill.
When my wife drives, 28-29mpg...
When I drive, 22-25mpg...
So if you are launching items out the cubby like me, you better not also be complaining about poor MPG's... (rockon)

That's what's good about keeping you pack of gum in that cubby. No need to reach for the pack, just hold your hand out and launch from a stop.

I hadn't thought of keeping loose change in that little cubby, so I tried it yesterday. I put on about 80 miles on curvy mountain road, and nothing slipped out. I'm glad someone mentioned this as a possibility.
I was thinking about adding a small square of non-slip shelving material there... but discovered I didn't need it. Maybe I need to drive more aggressively.
