I just found out that its available in Black, red, yellow and silver.
I like the Red and black enough to consider it.

there will always be something faster.
something will always handle better.

the mazdaspeed protege is definetly not the best car in the world, by any means, but...

can we please just enjoy what we have?

I would think the LSD on the MSP help quite a bit around and exiting corners. The Neon will out duel the MSP in the end for sure, but not very gracefully that's for sure. Typical American style with automobiles basically. The Neon's suspension doesn't have camber either. Great for straightline stuff like braking and accelerating. Not so great for cornering and tire wear if you push the car a lot.

I do recall that SCC article saying the same thing how it took the Neon a few miles before it can pull away from the MSP on the tie-breaker "Climb the mountain" test where torque is paramount which the Neon really benefit from. If this was the case, then I think the gap is even smaller on regular roads or tracks.

And I'd take Mazda quality over Chrysler quality any day.

My 2 cents.

AGR, your sh*tbox comments show your real age. Enough of the BS, now that there have been two or three posts setting the facts straight, where have you run off to?

There you are Buster! How are you? ('don't often participate in just an MSP post, do you?) Even, I need some sleep. Those facts I knew, and was quite aware of. By the way; what are you driving? You are certainly the biggest defender of this Neon 'crown'. To each his own. And that, of course, pertains to the 'looks' dept., and the overall 'quality'. Mostly Chrysler cars are pretty miserable when it comes to quality. That is typically true. They spend a hell of a lot more time in the shops then most brands. I know of few people that would argue that. But, in many cases, more people are more interested in 'power' over plasticky, cheap interiors. They let the quality issue slide in favor of power.

But what it really boils down to, is personal choice, isn't it? You won't see me over on any Neon forums looking for trouble. Because really, when you are here on the MSP forums, you are usually just trying to say how much better the SRT-4 is than the MSP. :wtf: For me; the MAZDASPEED was a no brainer, and if I wanted the SRT-4, I sure as hell would have bought one.

Ciao!

Hmmm, I don't EVER remember saying the SRT4 was better than the MSP. I have alway's maintained they are both great cars, as well as others in the same category. I have been made out as the bad guy by a few on this forum when correcting the misinformation and whatnot of others(Basically if I don't always agree with you I must be an asshole). I have never blindly hacked the MSP or any other car for that matter.
Lets be honest, most of you have never sat IN a 2nd gen Neon (R/T, or SRT4 or SX) to say if it has a cheap interior, and besides, the faux aluminum plastic that Mazda uses in the Protege line is still cheap plastic too. For the record, I own a 01 Neon R/T that I have had for almost 2 yrs and am very competitive locally in autoX. The car has been rock solid, rattle and squeak free and I have had no issues with since I bought it. It had 3000 dealer km's on it as well, so I am sure it was not babied for the first 3000km's. If you research 2nd gen quality and reliability it rates very well. I post here because I am a car enthusiast and am thinking of a second car, MSP, SVT, SRT4, SpecV are all in the running. Oh, and I have posted on non SRT threads BTW.

Excellent. Whatever makes one happy. That is most important, isn't it? It's all about personal choice in the end.

?? Man, I don't understand you at all.

It's all very simple. And, this can be very tiring. All this arguing; when I guess we all should be thankful that we enjoy these types of cars (whichever the brand). Most everyone I know in my area aren't interested - although there are a few. Around here, it's more about the 1/4 mile or 'the other'. Variety is the spice; so cool! I'm through going off. My opinions are the same; but there's no need in continuing in this manner. We are all here to have fun.

My personal next choice would have been a WRX, if I had wanted to spend the extra $4,000. I always have liked that car. The RX-8? That might be pretty nice to finally see one. After that; Nissan 350Z Track Edition. That is what I would buy if I were spending $34,000+. No kids at home - no real need for a sedan.

Braking is the final Factor, now this a rather unfair Comparison as the Neon has ABS and the MSP does not, so its ability to Late brake into a Corner cant be compared.

I think the MSP does have ABS...

Correction: Our MAZDASPEEDs 'do' have ABS and EBD.

Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) w/ Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)

AGR #7

The Model Tested did not have ABS and therefore I was not going to make a Comparison on its braking ability......

But I stand Corrected.

My information was meant to look at the Car as Face Performance Value.....Obviously some of you Missed that. Interior/Exterior Styling was NOT a factor. To each his own, some people are just not meant to Understand, I guess

Cheers,

I think we understand, we were just pointing out that MSP does have ABS, no big deal...

Hey Mike! All is good, indeed. No problem. It even came up on another post about brakes. All of the production model MAZDASPEEDs have ABS / EBD. That's weird that the test model didn't.

And for me personally, since I love good music; I enjoy the MAZDASPEED sound system: 450 watt 7 speaker including 8" subwoofer, AM/FM/CD/MP3 Kenwood Excelon audio system with amplifier, liquid gel 3-D screen with self-hiding and removable faceplate, wireless remote control and rear glass antenna (very cool - no external metal antenna).

moderator?

Can a moderator please....moderate????

Wanna talk about other cars besides a Mazda - OFF TOPIC
Audio Question - Audio
Performance - gee....maybe the Performance section

it doesn't get any easier then that. Just because you own a MSP doesn't give you the right to post anywhere you please, And just because you somewhat mention the msp in the same paragraph doesn't make it MSP related.

This got old long ago

Re: moderator?

I agree Newf, and I know I got a little crazy. But; it's like I was saying, we are all here to have fun, and I know I pushed the envelope. From now on; I'm going to be nice - that is afterall, my true nature. :D

I would like to add some fact!!!!

Before this thread is closed ( for reasons I don't agree with )
I wanted to add this Straight from SCC:

"Gathering performance data, it quickly became clear the SRT-4 was dominating the straight-line tests, & the MSP was being equally relentless with the handling tests. To break the tie, we took to the mountains & let real-world speed decide the winner. As you have surely guessed, the SRT-4 was the faster of the two, but not by much. It took more then three mile for the SRT-4 to pull an appreciable gap on the MSP. While not as solid & composed as the MSP, the SRT-4 still showed decent balance, good grip, strong, fade-free brakes, & of course, staggering pull between the corners. This is a lot of performance for $20,000."

Also from SCC:

"The MSP gives up 73 hp & 100lb-ft of torque to the overndowed SRT-4, & yet it was surprisingly close to nudging the SRT-4 out of the top spot."

Make of it what you will, but I'm happy with what I have.
These cars should be in comparison, along with all the other
sport compact cars ( Spec V, Mini, SVT focus, Civic SI, GTI ).......
