finally went there tonight and whipped through the twisties... its a nice smoothly paved stretch of road off of the pali thats usually used by the locals to drift... me and joy tested out the sparcos to ensure the lumbar support is effective. lol here is a map:

mapimage

its the road "maunawili"
doesnt look like much on the map but its more fun in person :)

just thought I'd share... -mike

You remembered our Directions huh? hehehe, glad you had fun, i'm on that road EVERY time i come home from town, or going to town from Kailua, unless i'm in a rush, than i just go straight. haha.

is there a diff map of this place? or land marks? sorry, not a windward person. we tried 2 find it on monday but decided we wanted 2 c those awesome waves instead out north. damn sand on the road was pretty high and car got wet from some high waves (washed down the car after...salt water not good). thx...wanna c what on earth you're talking about...usually do the tantalus thing but got tired of dodging fallen trees in the middle of the road and occasional boars.

theres another set of turns further down when you're heading towards waimanalo. the only thing is that you need to be going ridiculously fast because the turns are pretty wide. there is also a cop sitting at the end on occassions.

Are you talking about Norfolk Terrace? If so, that place IS fun, but yeah.....cops cruise at the end looking for speeders going into Waimanalo.

fyi, tantalus got so bad...i hightly do not suggest it at this time. it's holy, and i swear the road has gotten smaller. now days people can't even stay on their side of the road as well up there. do not go into the park, there were several pot holes bigger than the lane.

You think you have potholes man, try living where it freezes, then unfreezes and gets all wet, and then re-freezes..this year has been horrible, since it's been so warm during the days, and cold at night. Needless to say, potholes everywhere...kinda fun dodging them though..not fun hitting...I'm glad I have snows+steelies on. Some are deep enough that if you hit them, you bottom out, also the smaller deep ones, your wheel won't even hit the bottom of it...it's rediculous. I need to check out a road map for around here so I can find me some better twisties...my current ones always have cars...and I don't feel safe whiiping around blind corners with so much traffic, only safe time is at like, 4am...and thats when the cops usually cruise there..so I need to find a better location

yups i've been up there last week. the best time to go is at night...that way atleast you could see headlights if you need to make a blind turn. but i wouldn't recomend going up there speeding if it's your first time. i almost crashed because of all the sudden sharp u-turns and it's super fricken dark up there. but i wouldn't recomend going up there all the time. either you need to shift constantly or use your brakes a whole lot. cool place though.
