- 2013 Mazda 3 manual hatch
I bought my Mazda3 manual trans in Oct. 2013. I've been driving a manual for over 15 years, so I'm pretty sure I know how to drive a manual trans. With my 3, it pops out of 3rd gear--randomly. On cold days, it seems to happen more, but it was 50 degrees yesterday and it happened twice. I brought this up to my husband (a dealer manager) and he says it's just me and I don't want the garage to have to rebuild the trans. He drove it one day and it did not happen for him. But, it's random--some days it'll happen 4 or 5 times, and sometimes it'll go a couple of days without popping out. It happens when I accelerate, when I am at constant speed, straightaways, roundabouts, turning corners, hills, etc. Even if I put pressure forward on the shifter with my hand when it's in 3rd, it still has popped out--there is a force to it. Any thoughts? The car now has 7,000 miles on it. (not sure if it matters, but I still am averaging just 32mpg with the SkyActiv, although I was told I'd be near 40mpg--again, by my husband who manages the dealership--so I trust him!) I found a video on youtube of it happening in another 3 (earlier model year) and what was in the video was EXACTLY what happens to mine-just "popping" out.
