factory says 0w-20 is what it calls for, does anyone run 5w-20? i'd prefer to run mobil 1 full synthetic over the fuel efficient version, but they dont carry a 0w-20 in the full synthetic just the economic one.

i dont see anywhere in the manual where it calls for regular unleaded, but i'm guess it does. anyone have any take on what the benefits would be if any if i ran 89 octane over 87?

Our local WalMart stocks Mobil 1 synthetic in 0w-20. Some other stores also carry it. My Honda Fit calls for 0w-20
I use 5w-20 in my 08 Mazda 3. I didn't realize Mazda now calls for 0w-20. I know Honda and Toyota recommends
it for all their new cars.

Isn't the octane requirements listed on the inside of the fuel door?

yeah, they call for 0w20 and 87, but i want to run 5w20 and 89. the gas isnt as clean here as i'd perfer. supposedly they are going to start running a higher mix of ethanol in the gas here in the unleaded pumps, not sure if thats completely safe. which is why i was hoping to run 89 octane since it wont be changed..

You realize that 89 is just 87 mixed in with 91. If your local gas sucks, it's all going to suck. Also, E15 legislation is affecting all grades of gas as far as I've read. I don't think you can exactly avoid that. At least no more detonation (the alcohol tends to increase effective octane rating at the expense of power).

5W-20 will affect your fuel economy especially if you do most of your driving when the engine is cold. Don't cheap out, get the proper oil.
