12v supply for 4pin trailer electrics

I've put in the trailer electrics (2009 GT) and the only thing left to do is to run the cable to the battery. Thing is, that's not much fun. Do you think it would be permissible to just terminate the long wire with a 12v cigarette light plug (+ve only) and plug it in to the boot supply for those 3 times a year I actually tow a trailer?

Surely that 12v supply is designed with loads in mind (like beach toy pumps and so on) it should be more than man-enough to supply two blubs?

Would your answer change if towing a bigger trailer?

Thanks!
Andy

I just ran mine back to the battery. It wasn't all that bad, I ran it under the pan for a good bit of the way.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. I always wonder why run a wire all the way back to the battery when there is a source for power in the back. Either way, it will be fused...and the outlet in the back is rated for 10A. I think only two or three amps is need for trailer lights.

If I recall correctly, stop light and signal light are both rated at 21W-25W. That is 2A/per.
The tail light is rated about 5W each. In worst case, you will have
2X5W+2X25W+1x25W = 85W (two tail lights, two stop lights, plus one signal light).
That is 7A (85W/12V=7A).
