i said A LOT, not all, if you want to b**** about it be my guest, there are obviously bands with true musical knowledge/talent but dont act like it takes that much talent to bang out some power chords... i'm a metalhead with the best of'em, but i'm not going to bulls*** and tell everyone that its a hard genre to master... i have MANY connections with metal bands, trust me when i say a lot of them dont have much TRUE musical knowledge ;)...

TOOL

I'd say they know just lil bit of musical knowledge...

Haven't even listened to this video yet, but wow this thread turned into competition over praising/criticizing somebody no one here knows...

you're just proving that you're an idiot.

You see the thing is you totally disrespected somone who has made quite an accomplishment in their life. I would love to have the chance to go to music school, and the fact that you sat there and underminded his accomplishments proves that you are the idiot. Also to think that you could possibly know more about music than somone who has graduated, with high honors, from a school that is dedicated to teaching music is insane.

lol Ok people let's all just get over yourselves.

There are several things here.
Is good? What does "good" really mean?
Does he have talent? How is this measured?
Did you like it? Complete opinion.

These questions are based on everyones opinion but there are a few facts.
Playing fast is impressive but that's about it. He was playing scales. While playing the scales fast is NOT easy......it's not really "good". So he can play scales fast. I could not even HEAR the video but it was obvious what was going on. Playing fast looks cool and may sound cool to some people but people when you get down to it...he has a long way to go before he could really be considered "good". Think SRV.
You didn't even listen to the kid play?
"Good" is also complete opinion.

This video is just a snippet of the skills the kid has. It looks like someone just told him - "play something fast"

And like I said before, there are professional artists out there who play just about the same stuff and style that this kid is playing and are touring around and making money. If they are "good" or not is purely based on the individual preference of the listener.

If you are a fan of Nuno Bettencourt, Paul Gilbert, and Zakk Wylde (all of which have similar soloing styles), you will see this kid as good.
If you are a SRV fan you might not even have heard of those names anyway, so you just wouldn't appreciate the style.
In turn, guitar shredding fans will tell you that SRV and BB King are not good.

No I didn't. I saw exactly what he was doing. I know how to do what he was doing....not a big deal.

ok

True. there are tons.

Yes I have hear of them.
In turn, guitar shredding fans will tell you that SRV and BB King are not good.

This is the best statement of all. lol I think I will add this to my sig. Guitar shredding fans will tell me SRV and BB aren't good? lol and what makes you think they are right? Maybe they don't like that style, it doesn't mean they are not good.

This kid plays fast, he just doesn't have the whole thing yet. Another one of my favs is Steve Via, and Satriani.

conclusion.

he's young, not writing his own material... everybody's dumb cuz we're all saying that he's good or bad based on a 5min clip of him at some bar.

for all you know, he might have every guitar track in existance mesmorized, plays everything while doing backflips on a beachball balanced on an elephants back.

now i'll make this thread so stupid and filled with garbage that nobody will want to read any posts in here, it's all just stupid at this point.

This does not make him good. This means he can copy people, again NOT a big deal.

That kid's got talent. It's apparent by his sweep picking technique used in the arpeggios. This is popular by a lot of shred guitarists (ie: steve vai, yngwie malmsteen, eric johnson and jason becker). It's not the hardest thing in the world to do... but when you're that young. Heh, speechless
