Since I have a car with mods should I ask the dealer to put in a different oil then they normally do? or does it really not matter?

Mods or not, I'd take 6 quarts of Penzoil Platinum to them and have them use that. If they refuse, do it yourself or take it to an independent shop that won't give you grief. Believe it or not, there are dealerships that swear against Syns, yet have no documentation from Mazda to back it up.

Syn is the best thing you can use for a turbocharged engine, and even moreso if you're putting out higher than stock hp.

what are you getting done with you "10k mile service" exactly and how much are they charging you?

Why go to the dealer? You haven't been hanging around those undesirables, have you?

according to the Mazda Owner wesite's Maintenance schedule:

10,000 Miles

* If necessary, inspect, repair, clean, adjust or replace Engine coolant level , Function of all lights , Brake and clutch fluid level , Tire inflation pressure and tire wear , Power steering fluid level , Washer fluid level
* Lubricate All locks and hinges
* Replace Engine oil , Engine oil filter

so basically, they do nothing... just change your oil and charge you extra $$$

i didnt get charged 300 for my 10k check up.

all i got charged for was an oil change and tire rotation

dude, don't waste your time and money on this. go to walmart and buy some rhino ramps ($40), 6 qts of pp 5w30 ($26), oil pan ($5) motorcraft filter ($5), filter wrench ($5) and lithium grease ($5) assuming you have a basic socket set.

if you can mod your car, you sure as hell can change the oil.

Truer words were never spoken.

*waits for the op to come crying when the dealer informs him they're voiding his warranty because his car is modded*

And also they'll void your warranty if you can't back up with receipts that you had your oil changed at an autorized place every 7500 miles, Jiffy Lube, Grease Monkey, etc. So even if you do a flawless oil change, a week later your engine could blow and warranty won't cover it because you did the oil change and not a "professional".

Every time I change my oil, I take a picture of the receipt held in front of the gauge cluster to show current miles and I highlight the date on the receipt. This has never not worked for me.

I took my car to the dealer for an oil change, took my own oil and filter and paid them $13 to change my oil. The techs were asking me about my bpv and sri, they could care less. They had more of an issue with me being back with the techs than with me bringing them a modded car.

I pay $20 for filter and labor and bring my own RP oil. I do it mainly not because i am lazy, but to build a relationship with the dealer.
