That was my point to the post dig- I didn't misunderstand, I agree with a lot of what you had already said, didn't mean to be unclear on that

Oh, and kooldino- you are right in re-opening this thread- This is a lively discussion- let it happen

Thread reopened due to user request, and the fact that "closing a thread because people are arguing" doesn't justify it, IMO. (Sorry, pdh).

While people are definitely arguing, they're doing it in a somewhat civil matter, and that's good enough for me. If it gets out of hand, I'll move this to the flamewars.

Thank you VERY much......I really love this forum and sometimes discussion like this is very healthy as long as it stays adult........good call!!!!

Now guys, lets not abuse this and start name calling and s***.......this isn't a Honda forum :D

If some peoples posts get overly abusive or inflammatory, I'm all for the mods deleting their posts rather than just stonewalling the whole thread. Moderator = Moderation :)

I'm glad someone understands to purpose of a civil, even if heated, debate.

I jumped into this thread a bit late, so basically, i gave my view across 4 long ass posts, then i started replying to people. Frankly i love discussing things such as this with both people who hold totally opposite opinions that make great critics and can open you up to other options, and then discussing and further developing my views with like minded people.

Now that we're past giving praise to the Mod who re-opened this.. anyone wanna get back on topic and answer any questions i have posed? Or pose questions about statements i've made you might disagree with?

You've made all the arguments that I could think of, and much better than I could. I'm happy to sit back and watch you rule.

I will say this, although I admire the judges passion and his strong beliefs, a higher court made a ruling and it's his duty as a citizen to follow the courts ruling. The fact that as a judge he felt above the law does not say a lot for his own character.

I haven't read the arguments so I have nothing to comment on this thread yet.

I feel that there is nothing malice or evil that can come believing in a god so long as love of humantiy is involved.
The 10 commandments are mroe then simply a religious view as they have been supported by numerous societies. They are rules of civil order and humanity.

Also Why can't the 10 commandments be displayed? ui have to look at peoples bad art work all the time, they should be fired. I don't know about you guys but someone that thinks murder and theft is wrong is the kind of employee I look for :D

Question was stated that nowhere in the constitution was anything mentioned about the separation of church and state

HERE is the answer

Directly, the unamended constitution, Article VI, Section III

" but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

The only reference to religion in the original Constitution, Article VI is written in the form of an unequivocal denial of any place to be given to religious considerations in determining qualifications for public office. The prohibition applied at this time, of course only to federal office, not state or local. The adoption of this proposal in effect, precluded the possibility of any church-state union or the establishment of a state church in the absence of any religious test for public office.

look here http://candst.tripod.com/tnppage/who2.htm to see where the phrase "seperation of church and state actually came from.

THIS THREAD IS AWESOME.. we have lots of debates on here. But none that are so political and in depth to the point that opinion is lost in fact.

the term seperation of church and state was never part of any legal written document. ANd no.. there shouldn't be any religious test to hold a public office of ANY kind.. that fall on violating religious freedoms and discrimination laws.

But between the 1st Amendment, the Treaty of Tripoli, the opinions expressed by the founding fathers, the fact that America is what it is by fleeing religious persecution, that christianity and gov't will abuse and distort the hell out of each other, that anyone not christian will be automatically excluded from religious representation by not being treated with a sense of neutrility over a matter that is no organizations concern, the fact that the 10 commandments actually violate alot of the Bill of Rights and common morality among americans christian and non alike.... to look at what religion in government has done to the middle east, to view the propoganda power that Adolf Hitler recieved by "using God"....explain to me how religion being within government is a healthy thing in a country founded on being a melting pot and having "freedoms" that aren't available anywhere else in the world?
