1.8-2.0???

no, not a stupid question, the 1.8 and the 2.0 engines are virtually indistinguishable from each other... remember they both share the same head, but different block, and because the engine is from - wait, is it a 97 or an 02? b/c i suppose if it's after 2000, i think they switched them all to the 2.0 FS engine
...but not entirely sure.

The listing says its a 97-2000 but also says it fits in the mp3 and protege5. I really need a engine and this price is good but i dont want a 1.8, this just looked alot like the 2.0l.

yeah, if you have a 2.0 now, you need to find a 2.0 engine, the transmissions are different for the 1.8 and 2.0, unless you wanted the transmission as well...

I just wasnt sure if that was really a 1.8 lt or i they had it mixed up lol

if its really a 1.8 then its a no go on that one.

you can put a 1.8 coil pack on a FS, but now looking more at the engine, i do believe it to be a 1.8..., it is nice that it comes with a transmission, makes it a much easy swap.

yes, i know you can put 1.8s on a 2.0.. but how often are you actually going to see a totally STOCK 2.0L motor with only 1.8 coil packs? never.. lol.. the 1.8 conversion is for people trying to clean up the engine bay.. b/c the 2.0L coil pack setup is FUGLY!

...i think that i might actually get this engine... the guy said it has less that 60k on it, it doesn't come with the transmission, but just in parts to repair my engine (piston rings, and valve seals/springs) it would cost the same as this engine.
$120 for shipping

my question is why in the photo does it have "FS" written on the valve cover over the timing belt area

...that's what i was wondering too, but technically, the heads for the the 1.8 and 2.0 both say FS on them and are the same, it's the blocks that are much different...

a 60k engine for only 500$ isn't too bad tho...if it's actually the right engine...

K one more dumb question, I can take a motor from a automatic and put it in a manual right? Just switch over the clutch and flywheel and be good?

that, i'm not quite sure about, but i don't see why not, if it's only the block/head/engine that you are switching over, it seems like it would work...

i actually picked up a JDM FPde too. From what I read it appears that the JDM model was mated with the G transmission, and should bolt up to the 02 stock trans.

^^^ ooo, can you maybe take some pics of what you got? so this should bolt up to the 99-00 transmission and actually work?

That engine could be either an 2.0 FS or a 1.8 FP. The 626's had that valve cover and coil pack set up with the 2.0 FS. The 1.8 FP Proteges '99-00 also had that set up (the FP was in service for more years overseas.)

The heads are the same for both engines (the cam specs are different however.) The blocks are different. IIRC the FP has a shorter deck height. The engines use different transmissions and have different bolt patterns for the transmission (from what I have read.) I believe that the FP or FS is cast on the block behind the exhaust manifold.

Automatics have a starter with three bolt holes, manuals only have two. Some have swapped them and simply left one bolt out. I read this morning that the automatic main bearing support is missing a bolt hole that the manual cars have.
