1+2 gear sinchros...

Ok here is the deal. When i just got the car (used 11.000 miles on it) - first to second shift would grind once in the blue moon. It seemed to have become even rearer ocasion once i replaced the stock shifter with B&M one. Well, guess what... The problem is here again, only now it happens much more often, like once a day. I replaced the tranny fluid with redline MT-90, still no luck. Problem still there, although things are much smoother otherwise. I also lubricated whatever was needed under the car... Once again everything is better besides the problem. The grind seems to be happening once i take the shifter out of the first gear gate... Usually it happens under harder acceleration (never too hard) and also when going uphill or uphill while turning... The problem never occurs while downshifting into the second...
So here is the dilemma. My car obviously has some aftermarked parts on it (nothing too serious), and it has not seen the dealer since the first free oil change... So should i put it to stock (intake, shifter,) and bring it to dealer, or do you guys have some other suggestions. The car is perfectly drivable and fun, but god damn i don't want my tranny to go...
Any suggestions welcome, Thanks in advance, Viktor

The dealer will try to stick you for that short shifter. Just be aware! The intake they may try also, but they'd be idiots to try to blame your transaxle problems on the intake.

(uhm) It most likely has to do with the syncro. 1 year after I got my car I really messed up my transmission. Me and my significant other had gotten into a fight and during that time while going up hill with stress to the tranny she managed to jump across her seat and pushed the shifter to another gear without me pressing the clutch. "SNAPP!" is all I heard. I then only had 1st gear. She managed to break a syncro in the tranny and everytime I tried to shift it would pop out of gear and also make a grinding noise while trying to put it in to gear. I then told the dealership it had all of a sudden broken and they replaced it. Broke it in three places. They told me I was the 3rd to break a Syncro for a Protege/MP3 at the dealership. I felt privilaged but also relieved it was fixed at no charge, WARRANTY ROCKS (2thumbs).

But that might be your problem, the syncro. May have been abused a bit while with the other owner. Just a thouhgt. Dealership also told me that the syncros are strong but to a point. I guess I went over that point.

Also with the mods to your car, I had the B&M Short Shifter, SRI, Lowered and Exhaust on my MP and the dealership didn't say anything. Maybe depends on the dealership.
