1,000 Mile Check Up

Well the car is getting there and I was wondering is there such a thing (1,000 mile check up). Since this is my first new car, people are telling me that I should go for the check up and have my oil change. Has anyone gone for the check up? What was done?

My question is should I use the factory car oil or something else.

Thanks
Robb

I was told by the dealer to come in and change the oil at 3000 miles. Normally the manual says to change it every 7500 miles. I don't think it would hurt to bring it in at 1k, but then again i'm not sure if it would be any better than waiting until you hit 3000 miles.

This is just the dealer trying to make more money in my opinion...
I have no problem with taking the car to the dealer for the oil changes, but it could get sort of expensive/time consuming.

I bought 10 oem mazda oil filters and drain plug gaskets from the dealer, and then changed my oil at 2,500 over to synthetic Mobil. My car has 7,900 miles now, and has yet to be back at the dealer since the day I bought it. Hopefully it never will....

Good luck.

Don't bother. Check your owner's manual. There is nothing in there about a 1000 mile check up. Wait to get your oil changed at 3000 or 3500 (I don't remember which it is).

Just do your regular "little check ups". Check your tire pressure occasionaly. The tightness of the lug nuts, oil level, and to make sure that all the lights are working.

Take your car to a dealer for awork within warranty. That way if anything goes wrong they can't blame you and try to charge you for the repair.

Good Luck

Speaking of oil..... anyone wanna give me a quick 101 on types of oil and some of their benefits? I don't really know what the deal is. Is it worth it to switch to some other high performance/synthetic brand?

synthetic oil runs smotther through the engine, thus making things nice and smooth while driving. i use mobil one, as do alot of others on here.
