Both would be brand spanking new. We have a test drive for the Porsche set up for this weekend. We are also going to ask for a test in a used '04 M3 coupe because they don't like test drives of their new cars.

Which one would you pick and why?

We are looking for something a little classy and fun to drive. We already have an MSP and a Nissan Frontier. This is for our weekend toy. Oh yeah, we are trying to stay in the 40s to 50s range.

I wish I had a decision like this to make:D. I dunno what I would go with, but I hear good things about the Boxter S...from what I've read anyways.

EDIT* I'm just doing some research on the cars...and a question I have, is any reason you're looking at these two and not others?

Why is this even a choice...... Oh wait ur wife wants a convertable huh?

99.9% of the votes are goign to be m3 based on preformance alone.

If u looking for weekend fun go with the convertable boxster S.

I would go for the boxster. dont get me wrong, I love the m3 but this model isn't all as impressive to me.

^^ SC is a GT car, as much as I love it, it isn't really a performance car. I would go for the m3.

Boxster over the M3 any day. I don't like the styling of the new M3s and hell..the Boxster beat out the 'vette in the most recent issue of Car and Driver... so there M3 :P

Ben

honestly, for a good weekend car, i think the M3 would be better. if you're gonna go for track, the boxster S sucks. it's heavy and slow. looks good, but won't perform as well as the M3. the M3 is much more rewarding to drive i think. it has great handling and a sweet engine

dont be the poser porsche owner. If you are gonna get a porsche, get a real one. The boxter is equatable to that stupid Benz C-class with the ass cut off.....half of th reason people buy them is so they can say they own a Benz or a Porsche.
My friend's dad has a 911 turbo, and I hear Porsche's have stuff go wrong with them enough to make it DAMN expensive to own one....he always complains about how expensive things are to get fixed.
The new M3's are awesome.....they look clean and a shitload better than all those other new BMW's they are coming out with.
In the end, trust your test drive. You'll be able to figure out which one ya like...

Lol, I agree. My area is littered with C-classes, 3 series and Boxters.

But, you are comparing a roadster to a coupe, very different. Get a 911 or M3.

BTW, 5th Gear did have a show where they compared a bunch of sporty roadsters, and the Boxster did come out on top because of the combo of performance, quality, and value.

Poser Porsche owner? What the hell are you smoking? The Boxster is nowhere near the same as the C-class MB. Do your homework friend...they are miles apart. For a company that has 4 lines of vehicles, you are doing a great disservice to it by calling their roadster a poser car.

the only comments you make that have any sense to them are the ones about the cost for repairs and trusting your test drive. I won't argue your preference for the M3, but you are way off when you compare the Boxster to that econobox MB.

the boxster is an entry-level porsche. nowhere near where a real porsche is. my dad had a '89 911 turbo, and that thing was hard as hell to maintain. half of the time it was in the shop because of faulty air conditioning, power windows failing, and MAD turbo lag.

if you want a serious car, get the M3. cars around half the price of the boxster S outperform it (350z, s2000).

well take note of this one thing which people havent mentioned. boxster s = two seater, as you probably know, while m3 is a two door and can four 4 adults. ive been in two different model m3's and have nothing but positive remarks. my dad has owned a 94 m3 and now the 98 convertible m3 which he still has. ive driven the convertible and its nice and smooth and fun. i dont know about the new one BUT i beleive they are revamping it for next model and dropping a v-8 in it if i remember correctly. the new boxster s looks amazing and should be good i havent driven it so i cant really say. i guess what you need to do when looking at both cars is look at functionality and your personal needs. test drive both cars and see which one you prefer and like more. dont second guess or settle for something you dont want because in the end its a big chunk of money and another car youl be driving for awhile so get what you like. it should not matter who has what car or what you see more of because in the end its your car and your car alone. they are both great cars so good luck amd enjoy whichever one you get. good luck and happy shopping.

So using that same line of thinking, I would call a Lamborghini Gallardo an "entry-level Lambroghini" because it doesn't cost as much as the Murcielago and may not have all the coolest technology. What do you consider a "real Porsche" since you seem to be an expert on them?

Look at the Boxster for what it is... a 2 seater, a roadster. Now look at the M3 for what it is... a coupe. They are completely different classes of vehicles. They will both be expensive to maintain.

And you know what? Most 15 year old vehicles that are built for performance within more exacting specifications than the stuff pumped out of Detroit will require a lot of maintenance. You think there's such a thing a a Ferrari daily driver?

slow down kid... you act like he attacked your man hood.

anyways... the boxsters these days look tacky, inside and out. Personally i like the M3 but im also a huge fan of the new audi line. A chipped TT can be fun and the S4 is oh so sexy... i say you look at those as well.
