Can the roof rack rails on the 03 p5 be removed. I have seen some pics with rail on and off, but didn't know if the 02 as different from the 03?

BSN_mt, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

as for your question.....are you talking about the rack itself that goes from one side to the other? of which the question is YES they can and its covered in the owners manual as how to remove them....or are you talking about the complete rail system that goes from front to back?

IF your real question is the latter.....the answer to that one is also YES...but its a lot of work.....you have seen pictures of cars in both configurations because the Canadian models do NOT come with the rack on them, and we have a lot of canadian members here.

What is involved is you will have to first obtain through a dealer the roof pieces that run from the front to the back that fills in the slot that is there.....you have to remove the roofrack....you have to revome the entire head liner....there are fasteners there to revome to actually have the track come out of the groove....there will be some holes left that you will have to seal up....and then install the filler pieces that are from the canadian model. its a lot of work...but I have seen it done....it just depends on how bad you want to get the rack gone.

Question for the Canucks. What are the little filler pieces that pop out of y'alls roof racks? I just got mine yesterday and noticed them. I know that y'all have a different OEM roof rack than we do, does anyone have any pictures?

P.S. You can buy both roof filler pieces (to completely remove all of the U.S. Roof rack) at Mazdastuff.com for 59.95 each (yeah, it's a bit steep)

BSN, I went back and did a little digging around and found the following information for you....

IF what you are wanting to do is COMPLETELY remove the rack...rails and all....here are the parts # you will require

Part #'s

BJ3D-50-9L0D
BJ3D-50-9H0D

0 = "zeros"

Here is a tutorial that one of the members did a while back when he took his rack completely off.....there are a lot of good pictures and will give you a very good idea what all is involved.

Thanks Guys, I haven't been able to get much info any where else and the local yakima dealer doen't even have the books on the 03 models. If I do decide to try it, I will keep you posted. I think it looks a little better without the rack anyways.

Sir-Nuke,

Thanks for sharing, been lurking around here quite sometime now and I still haven't come across this. This is un-related but, I was thinking about dynamatting my ceiling (I bought the bulk pack of dynamat extreme off of ebay and have a BUNCH left over from doing my doors) and just hadn't seen pictures of the headliner removed or had an idea of how to do it/how easy it was. Thanks!

Well, I installed my rack last night (haven't pulled the factory rails yet) It a pretty tight fit with my yakima rocket box. Has anyone put one of these on a p5 before. I got mine on so it wont rub or interfer with the rear door, but the noise it makes going down the road is horrid. A really loud whistle. I am going to try to shift it back more, but then it will cause problems with the door. Any suggestions.
