03 P5 egr valve

A family member has a '03 P5 that has had idle/stall problems for a while. Replaced timing belt/tensioner and problem still remains. Through all the searching found that egr valve is a probable cause. The dang road bump im hitting now is the 2 12mm bolts holding it on are soooo damn tight they wont move. First question: Are they reverse thread?

second question: If not reverse thread, how can i fit my XL hands in to get the dang valve out.

I didn't have any trouble with mine, maybe try some WD40 or PB blaster. Make sure you are loosening the right bolts.

Yeah use a 3/8" rather than 1/4" drive with a long enough handle. I know clearance can be tight on those two. Of course reverse direction to account for upside down bolts. I don't remember hearing of anyone needing a ton of torque to loosten these once you can get a wrench to seat and get clearance.

i used a ratchet wrench 12mm, i just did mines today in 30 minutes..u cannot fit a ratchet or exstension or anything else, thats the worse 2 bolts 2 remove.lol..

i can get a ratchet on the one closer to the front and i know im trunign it the right way since ive been working on cars, trucks and motorcycles since i could walk. but to give you an idea of hte size of my hands, one of them covers 3/4 of a regular keyboard on a computer my wedding ring was a size 14

btw since i now some of you have smart ass remarks im not a fat ass 6'0" 225lbs and have always been in shape

yea bro i hear u ..well i have skinny hands but even with my hands, its a pitFa..have someone with skinny hands do it or u might have to unbolt a mount or something

you could try cleaning it with out taking it out of the car. Try unhooking the battery then have someone sit in the car to hold the gas pedal down and take a straw and squirt some carbon buster of your choice (ie brake-kleen) into the squarish hole just inside near the bottom behind the throttle bottle.

dont bother cleaning it, have a replacement handy as its a damned pain in the ass to get it off you dont want to do it twice! I removed the battery intake manifold and used a stubby wrench - mine were rusty but they came off eventually!!

The first time i tried without removing everything i got nothing but cuts on my hands. Cleaned the old one and it got worse, it was toast. Put new design one in and havent had an issue since!

i believe the new egr is available at pep boys, napa, advance auto,etc..if want to buy a new 1 then get the canadian 1,they can order it for u if u live in the usa..i got 1 from autozone but the regular usdm version ..
