03 MSP w/ Leather Interior

I am thinking about buying an MSP but this one has leather interior and I've never seen one with leather interior before. Anyone out there know of an MSP that comes with leather from the factory or know the person that might have done this swap?

Thanks and looking forward to joining the family

if its a true MSP and it has leather, the leather is aftermarket. only the pro5 had leather as an option from the factory.

Those are the interior pictures from the dealer. What does everyone think about the leather and what would inspire this change?

defnitly not factory. Anything could inspire the change from just wanting leather to having ruined fabric.
to be honest i think that colour leather looks pretty crap, i would have chosen black leather.

someone told me that the leather seats could be from a non-mazdaspeed protege, could this be a direct swap?

i mean, i def don't like the seats, but i am more worried that these seats aren't going to be as safe

the ONLY other model protege to get leather from the factory would have been the pro5, and those are NOT pro5 seats.

i wouldn't worry about the seats being any less safe than the stock MSP seats. there wasnt anything special about them, other than the covers. if you dont want the leather, and you REALLY want an MSP, you will have to just keep looking.

ok, you make an excellent point, if these aren't pro5 seats, then where are they from?

my concern with safety is that they would have been welded (that's an assumption) and I don't want to end up in the windshield because of someone's "upgrade"

def want an MSP

they look like the stock seats that were recovered in leather. you know, you can buy leather seat covers almost anywhere?

I did a full katzkin leather interior in my protege, and there is no way it can make the car less safe. Unless the person did not tighten down the bolts where the rails mount to the floor board. The install looks like it was done by a pro. Trust me you would know if it was a shifty install. I would say not to let the seats keep you from buying the car, unless you are in love with the msp seats. I am a mechanic, so I was tired of getting my cloth all dirty. Leather is much easier to clean, but requires more upkeep. Hope this helps!

is this a katzkin leather interior?

It looks just like my kit, so I would say probably. The kit retails for arround $800 plus another $400 for the professional install. It's atleast $1000 upgrade. These seats have been in the car for at least 10k judging by the condition of the seats. They should last At least another 5 years with proper care and limited exposure to the sun!

Most of the dealers out here will do whatever you want and just add it in to the financing. I had leather put in mine and it had 7k miles on it when I bought it...with two kids and lots of spills it's the only option for me. Mine was done by "ClassicSoftTrim.com" and looks very similar along with door panels for $1k. They're basically just seatcovers that are glued and stitched into place

Not glued, we use hog rings and the original seat covers come off and are replaced with pre made leather skins. Most companies use katzkin they just don't tell the customer. The door inserts are glued on with spray adhesive, but everything else is secured with plastic clips, Velcro straps, and metal hog rings. VERY SECURE!

wait, so the door inserts are also different?

what all on this interior looks to be upgraded?

also, could you send me some pics of your leather interior?

yes, i completely agree

i was hoping with a unique interior like this, someone would know the person that owned this car previously and then i could ask them some questions before making the purchase

i mean, how perfect? it's already at the dealer, so the previous owner would have no ties, so they could really tell me how it was driven, what could be wrong, and what to actually pay.

i mean, just imagine what you would say about your car after you've sold it, we all know that there are little things we'd want the new owner of our previous car to know

looking at the rest of the pics of the car it seems to be a very bone stock MSP.
