0-60 MPH time for the 2.5L sedan?

2014 Mazda3 S GT auto, 2008 MX5 6-speed
Has anyone seen published 0-60 times for the 2014 Mazda 3S 2.5 liter sedan?
I saw a listing of 6.6 seconds in a website that lists times for all kinds of vehicles but have not seen mention of this statistic in any major magazine.

Wasn't that for the 2.0 liter version?
I know Car & Driver was able to get 7.0 seconds from the 6, which has the same engine. The 6, however, is at least 200 lbs heavier than the 3 with the same engine, I believe, so 6.6 seconds is feasible.

Motorweek got 6.9 seconds with the 2.5 sGT hatchback and 15.2 seconds for the quarter mile. For sure its in the low 7s high 6s for 0-60 runs.

Car-n-Driver's test: 7.2s. (2.5G auto)

2.0G Manual: 7.9s. (CnD)
2.0G Auto: I saw a number of 8.5s. (elsewhere)

2.5G manual should be around 6.6s.(my est.)

There is no 2.5 manual, correct? I wonder how the 6 was able to get to 60 in 7.0 seconds. Maybe its gearing is different from the 3's?

Did Car & Driver just estimate the 0-60 for the 2.5? I get their magazine but did not see that 7.2s in any of their reviews. Does anyone have a link?

Thanks.

I have also wondered what impact the sport mode might have on these numbers (if any).

I think the 2.5 is in the 6's for sure, at least from the reviews I have seen and just my old butt dyno :) The 2.0 is in the 7's I think from the reviews as well. With a 1/4 in the 15's for the 2.5 that's really good imo, especially considering the MPG this car can get.

2.5L MT is coming. This has been confirmed.
Diesel will come around April/2014, I heard.

The 2.5 is ridiculously fast especially for the mpg's you get. Plus with its crazy awesome handling and standard features, an amazing package. Here's the link to motorweek's video page, the Mazda3 is on the same episode as the Corvette Stingray http://video.pbs.org/program/motor-week/

Somebody's gonna need to take their s Touring or sGT to a dyno and see what it puts down stock. I'd take mine if I had the time but alas grad school has taken over my life until December lol Though I did remember on another board two 2014 Mazda6 owners got 163 whp and 168 whp on their stock dynos.

That video shows 6.9 sec for the 2.5L 5-door 3. I'll bet the guys at Car & Driver can get 6.6 for the sedan, which is the same time as the MX5 and FR-S/BRZ twins. This is excellent for something that averages 33 MPG.

The sedan is about 20 lbs lighter but more aerodynamic so it could probably go faster though I think both body styles can get lower than 6.9 seconds to 60.

What's surprising is that the hatchback is 4.7" SHORTER than the sedan.

The sedan probably won't hit 60 any faster due to aerodynamics as they don't really come in play until faster then that.

I'm patiently waiting to hear an official release timeframe on the 3s 6MT. I liked the 3i 6MT Touring I drove, but want an s, either T or GT.

Agreed; it's probably a wash.
Now this is puzzling. According to this site:
http://www.driveamazda.com/MusaWeb/keyCompetitors.action
If you compare a Mazda 3s Touring sedan (2982 lbs) to a 3s Touring hatch (2968 lbs), the hatch weighs 14 lbs LESS.
Also interesting is when you look at the 3i Touring hatch's weight (2877 lbs) This can't be, since the 2.0L engine HAS to weigh than the 2.5L engine in the S.
I guess the site needs corrections?

I don't know where you got the data from, but, based on Mazdausa.com, the hatch is about heavier by 20lb or so than the 4-door.

The data came from the site whose link I posted, although there is a slight chance I mixed up the numbers - not that this type of thing happens often.....

Car and Driver did the instrumented tests that resulted in the 7.2s time 0-60mph; however, they commented in that article that the reason the lateral acceleration was so mediocre was that the track was dusty and slippery. Perhaps their 0-60mph run was on the same slippery track, because they almost always get the quickest acceleration times, and MotorWeek just about the slowest, at least with manual transmissions.

And I agree with LH451: The 2.5L is ridiculously fast for what it's supposed to be. It's significantly faster than my slightly modified 2012 Focus was, and both are rated for the same fuel efficiency. I recently calculated averages for my last 2012 Focus Titanium hatchback with THP and my Mazda3. The Focus was 32.7mpg and the 2014 Mazda3 was 32.6mpg. It would probably have beaten the Focus if I could keep my finger off the Sport button and my hands off the paddle shifters.
