sometimes, yes. when metal is heated it expands. you have to understand the operating temps these cast, restrictive manifolds run at, in the thousands of degrees on most turbo cars, so failure is quite common as the cars get older. volvo, mitsu, my car, srt, evo, sti, SR20det... all of them...

the 'turkey noise' is called compressor surge. yes it's quite bad. turbo compresses the intake air charge, then you cut off it's route when you shut the throttle, without a bypass, the air rushes back towards the compressor and slams into it, causing a chatter. that chatter is your compressor...

when i first popped this open i was cringing with the thought of a pep boys special. this, however, is very well done. VERY good.
