    2003 Spicy Orange MSP

Well, I've decided it's time to send the Spicy on to a home where she might be properly updated and cared for. Didn't want to bother with a dealer trade-in, I would rather sell it to someone here who might have use for a well-used, but well cared for MSP. The details: 2003 Spicy Orange...

    Nocturnalspeed's Welcome & Build Thread

NocturnalSpeed - Great thread, pics and comments. I am amazed at how clean your ride is, especially on these dirty Houston roads. Last update was in July, it's September now. :) How is the build going? Inquiring minds are waiting! ;) I don't post much, mostly lurk. I'm currently...

Bank 1 Stored Code, Lean spike 3rd Gear, Sometimes Stalls at light

Bigray1111, I had the same issues several years ago. Fuel pump needed replacing. Cured the Bank 1 lean code and all of the other CEL issues I was having. See my writeup here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123731423-need-some-help..&p=4331183#post4331183

    yet another P0171 thread! woo!

Might be worth pulling the fuel pump. I had a constant P0171 that went away for good when the pump was replaced. See my post on it here: http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showpost.php?p=4331183&postcount=6

My Mazdaspeed Protege (MSP) currenet issues

Don't discount a fuel pump problem. I had the same horrible bucking and stalling/ lean CEL issue with a bone-stock MSP. Replaced EGR, MAF sensor, coil packs, plugs. Issue was still there, no vac leaks either. When I pulled the fuel pump, the problem became apparent. See my post about it here...

    Turbo Options

I'm looking to replace the original turbo in the next few months. Car is 100% stock, daily driver and will remain as such for some time. I'm old, and I drive slow. :) My question for those of you in the know, what "bolt on" turbo upgrade would you recommend without having to go forged or...

    need some help..

I went down the same road, new upper O2 sensor, new EGR, etc.. If you are getting a P0171 (Bank 1 lean), don't discount a weak or worn out fuel pump or fuel pump assembly. I had been dealing with that code (and a P0300 - Random multiple misfire) for over a year. Turned out the pump and a...

    MSP Running Real Rich?

I'm sure it won't be long before I'll be back in there replacing the entire pump assembly. I wasn't all that impressed with the condition of the unit as a whole. Awfully expensive part too, considering there's not really that much to it. -Lyserjic SpicyO #1291

    MSP Running Real Rich?

I was having a very similar issue with my MSP, stumbling idle as you describe, REALLY bad when things warmed up. Constant CEL with P0171 & P0300 (bank 1 lean and random multiple misfires). Pulled the fuel pump this past weekend. Here's where it got interesting. The large gasket around the...
