After 14,000 miles, my 08 MS3 started to smoke as well. I took it in this morning. They asked to see oil change records so I showed them two latest ones that was changed with 5W-30. They said they will start with "a kit change" first and see if it fixes it. I assume that's the ventilation kit...
If you care about music at all, stay away from FM modulators, doesn't matter how good those are, you are NOT going to get close to the same quality as a direct connection. Yes it's very noticeable.
I applaud you for trying to be different but there's a fine line between different and you-could-doesn't-mean-you-should. Reminds of the style in the early 90s, Mexican gangsters rolling around in tiny wheels sticking out like a foot from the fenders, what is it called...anybody?
I cut off one end of RCA cable and connect the appropriate + - wires to the speaker outputs from the HU. The other end of RCA cable just connects directly to the amp.
No, they are different cables. The end that goes into the GROM unit is round. http://gromaudio.com/store/accessories/grom_audio_standard_v2_ipod_dock_cable_assembly_-_5v_charging.html
The only non-OEM as far as I know for now is the GROM unit. They recently released a new version that works with 08-09 Mazdas. http://gromaudio.com/store/usb_adapters/grom-usb2-maz8.html Although I'm very ticked that you have to add an additional iPod cable for $19.75 to the purchase if you want...
I have an aftermarket sub with the Bose headunit. And you do not want to use high level inputs if car is Bose equipped. High level inputs in amps convert high level signal to low level, and since Bose headunits output low level already, it will be low level + low level = garbage.
