The tuning is more important than anything. Then cooling. Especially the tuning when the cooling starts to get overwhelmed. It's actually amazing that the stock block holds the stock 7-8psi for well over 100k miles when you see how poorly the stock PCM handles fuel and spark. My gut feeling...

There is no way to be a little bit off on timing. Just one tooth on either cam royally screws it up and it is very noticeable.
