need help with apex turbo timer

ok, so I installed it at the beginning of this week. everything works, kinda.. only when I take out my keys, the car bogs down REALLY low, then goes back to idle (turbo timer).. sometimes, it just turns off when I take out the key, the turbo timer just counts down with the engine off.

here is how I wired it to the ignition harness.

the apex TT has three wires, red, blue and green.

the red wire is the power wire, I connected it to the red ignition wire

on the apex instructions, it says the two other wires, green and blue, are ignition 1 and 2... I didnt know what that ment... so I just hooked them as follows: blue-blue and green-black&white.

like I said, it works, kinda, but not like its supposed to..

so if anyone can give me some insight as to what to do, that would be great...

well if you have the ebrake off when you turn off the car that will cause it to shut off.

I didnt hook up the ebrake up.. I just hooked up the power wires, and the ground.. I dont care to have the ebrake or o2 sensor wire hooked up, its not needed to work..

Eric -

Connect the Red wire on the Apex'i to the Black wire on the Ign. Harness.
Connect the Green wire on the Apex'i to the Blue wire on the Ign. Harness.
Connect the Blue wire on the Apex'i to the Black/Red wire on the Ign. Harness.
Make sure you have a solid Ground to the chassis or your TT may not function properly.

Hope this helps.

I'm using those wires and mine works perfectly fine. I used the 2003 Protege/Protege5 Wiring Diagrams Manual to find the correct wires.

ok... so when you say black, thats the black/white one right?

thanks for your help man, I think we are the only ppl with the apex.

Eric -

The Black wire does not have a stripe; it's a solid Black wire.

I've attached the Electrical Wiring Schematic I used to locate the wires.

hmm.. perhaps we are talking about different wires here..

the harness im talking about is directly under the steering wheel...

it has two red wires, two blue wires, a black wire with orange stripe, and a blck wire with white stripe....

Eric -

We're talking about the same harness. You're looking at the harness on the key side of the white plug. I'm looking at it on the back side of the white plug.

Do you need to remove more than just the plastic "pop-off" panel under the steering wheel to see the harness? Its already been a PITA working with the keyside portion of the harness. Hopefully we can get this working. I'll take a look at the diagram you attached above.

oh... damn.. im on the wrong side of the harness.. ok, i'll check it out tonight and see what I can do.. like marc said, its already cramped as hell down there, maybe the other side will give me a little more "work space"...

once again, thanks for the help shawn

I had the same problem. I don't remember anymore the color of the wires. Try doing a search using my username.

the way i have mine hooked up has been working for me for a few months now. if you look at the harness with the wire side pinted at you it should look like this

red wire / blue wire / orange wire
red wire / black wire / blue wire

from the description you made it sounds like the same problem i had at first and relised my green and blue wire were mixed up. it should be hooked up like this

red wire from TT hook to the top left red wire on the harness
green wire from TT hooked to top middle blue wire on the harness and
blue wire from TT hooked to the bottom middle black wire on the harness.

as for the grounding. If you want the automatic timing (battle mode) and a/f to work. You have to hook the o2 wire (i think its the white wire) to the pink wire coming from the o2 on the ECU (it should be pin 60, im not sure go in the how to the how to section and check out linux racers how to on the a/f install) also the black wire has to be ground to the ECU (not the chassis) if you want the a/f to work. its pin 7? (cant exactly remember) but if you search for wiring diagrams, there are a few on the board you can print off.

I dont care to have the a/f hooked up... and as far as grounding it, I found a nice place to ground it. the TT itself isnt having trouble staying on or anything... its just getting it to work correctly

i'll look at/ try both of you guys setups.. thanks VERY much for the help. you guys just saved me a big headache
