Well today we had the SCCA Auto-X Badlands Region 102 here in Minot ND and I wanted to drive both the 1999 Civic Si with the supercharger on and the wifes bone STOCK mazda 3S. Needless to say I just choose the mazda cause I didnt feel like f*ckin around with the civic to get it ready for the Auto-X. It was a good turn out for such a dinky town. Had 25 people show up that's with me included and we only got 3 run's. It was a blast. First time I've ever Auto-X'd and I think I did mazda and the rest of the Mazda 3's out there proud. There was also a STi out there and that b*tch was no joke around those corners. But you think that intimidated me. Hell no. I wont even tell you how it turned out. I'll show you.
Of course I'm the one who is high lighted and just go ahead and scan through the rest of the cars and see what I had to go up against.
LOL, I can't believe they spelt Mazda wrong also. Damn boonie people.

DAMN way to go!! what is auto cross anyway? what type of driving is it?
It's a course that you take your car through and see how well you can get through the cones without knocking any of them over. This was my first time ever doing something like this. I guess there's 2 diffrent type of auto cross courses that are made up. One for precision driving and the other for cars that have good amount of power in them. The course that the SCCA guys made up was for precision driving. Here's a video. Hope it works. Right click and save as. This was my fastest run and I hit one cone.

I'll post up the video of the STi when I get the chance. Don't know what was up with the STi, I know he knew what he was doing cause he came in first last year. That's what I heard. They just didnt expect a novice driver too come up in there and drive the course the way the Mazda 3 did. Was the best time's I've had sense I've been alive. LOL.

auotxing what a great sport. havn't been out in a while. be nice to have car to run just for that, it eats up tires so much though. i'd been thinking of xing my 3 when i get it

awesome videos

Those are great video's.

Looks like it was a lot of fun, you seemed to have much more confidence in the turns than the other cars.

That does look like a lot of fun. Thanks for posting all those videos. Where'd you find out about that? I'd like to go check one of these events out myself. Not sure I'd race though as I'm still really gentle with my new 3 (actually, it's mine and my fiance's). Nice of your wife to let you take her new car for this.

love how the prelude owner right after magaed to make that h22 sound like a b16 with that fart can muffler.

very nice bids, ive been wanting to try auto-x for a while now and now I think ill have to, just waiting for my new tires to come in, my stockers are already bald.

Actually how I found out about this was through the local forum we have here.
I got a schedule sheet of the dates for the ND area. That's all I have.
I had both the STi driver and the WRX wagon driver ask me what all I had done too the car and how was I getting those times. I told them everything was stock which is true cause it's the wifes car and she wont let me touch it for mods. Thats cool though its her car. Hell yeah I got confidence in this car. When I took this car for a test drive in January I knew right away I wanted. The handling is what sold me. Great car.

That was a really nice showing. I wonder how a Mazdaspeed would fair in your hands. You also seem to spend a lot less time on the brake correcting yourself than the other 2 drivers.

How fast are you traveling in that last "S" type turn? The one just feet before the finish line. You know the point where you wonder "Is one of these cars going to forget to turn and take out the cameraman like on REALTV?"

I just want to gain an understanding for how fast you're going. And congratulations too! I'm sure it feels good to spank $30-$40K cars in your >$20k car.

Tag - way to promote! Dude, you rock! (rockon) That was more of awesome driving than anything. I bet if you put our car into those other driver's hands, you would still kick their butts. Way to go.

Dang Sti sounded nice though, huh?

I left the tire pressure alone. I didnt mess with anything. Like I said, it was my first time ever doing something like this so I didnt do know what to do too the car to make it better. So I left it just like it was when I bought it off the showroom floor.
As for my speed going through that last S type turn I couldnt tell you, I didnt once look at the speedometer. I just know that I had it in first the whole time and it's the manumatic. LOL. Didnt want the tranny doing the shifting for me cause i knew that would probably mess me up.

Wow, if you kept it in first the whole time, that may explain why the other cars sucked so bad. I saw a lot of braking by the STi and RX8 which makes me wonder how much shifting they where doing.

usually during most autocrosses second would be as high as you take it. on small tight courses like what his was generally youlle hit the 40 mile mark or so. some that have longer straightaways you can get up to 60. do a search for the scca and you can find events in your area. and as far as it being the wifes car. same with me. but i took my wife with me and had her autocross as well. nothing like having the ability to take your car to the limits in a safe envirement, it lets you learn what your car can and can't do. having lots of power in your car is worthless if you don't know how to use it. heck in the early morning runs me and my sunfire can beat corvettes because it takes them a while to get used to so much power. generally in the morning u can watch them spin out allot. its all in how to use what you have and knowing how your car will react. if u want to see fast you should see the go karts do autocross. we have a guy that brings out a trailer with his nsx in it and his gokart, his go kart usually has the fastest times of anyone generally beating most cars by a good 5-10 seconds.

I got a schedule from the guy who was running the place and I plan on making every event except for the one in fargo. This track was very tight and very small, there wasnt enough space to speed through it. Even the SCCA guy said it was set up so we couldnt go too fast.
Hopefully the other events have some longer straight aways.
The wife was there with me but no way in hell did she wanna run. But she did go for a ride with a buddy of mine. She said that was the most fun she's had in a long time. Funner than a rollercoaster. LOL.
