How do most thieves break into a car?

yes what goes around comes around, sooner or later they will break into some phyco's car with a M61A2 Vulcan cannon consealed in a popup turret in his lawn and he will blow them away with 20mm depleted uranium shells, anyways

about the flame alarm thing, flames are useless, you need 50 titanium spikes comming out the side of the car at high velocity, they should be close enough together and small enough to tear off his legs therefore leaving him imobilized on the ground till you wake up

and the electric idea, hmm, it would be more effective if there was a generator )in your car capable of generating 50 TA (50 x 10<SUP>12</SUP>amps), this will be hooked into a microwave alarm, so when your alarm senses someone walking by your car it will flip the generator on therefore charging the door handles with some crazy ass current, when he touches it, he and everything around him will turn into a bloody pile of goop on the ground

I am designing my own home made security system, but I am trying to keep it simple.

Lemme get this straight, you're going to design a homemade security system? What a waste of time! Unless you've got complete understanding of the Mazda electrical system and solid understanding of general electronics, you're wasting your time.

I won't even bring up the idea that whatever you do, if you don't use high quality parts and make rock-solid connections, you run the risk of doing some serious damage. Imagine hitting a hard bump at highway speeds and the electrical tape on your fuel kill comes loose and it cuts off the fuel at say 80 mph.

Getting it done professionally is WELL worth the cash if you are seriously trying to protect your investment. Why skimp here? Security devices are 10% equipment and 90% installation!

Umm, I do have a complete understanding of the car's locks and keyless entry system. And a much more then general understanding of electronics.

I only use high-quality parts, the same or better then those used in commercial alarm systems. Who said anything about electrical tape or a fuel kill?

Professional systems are not any more secure then a properly designed and installed home system.

In fact a home-made system can be much better as the theif won't have any basis of reference to getting around it.
Also it won't be installed by some "professional" who is really an after-school Best Buy worker. (No offence to them)

Let keep things friendly, no one is serious about the flames, or volt stuff, it's just fun to think what you 'could' do to a thief.

Ha! I hardly consider Best Buy a source for security installs!
Find a shop that does nothing but security systems all day, every day. Of course, check references or get a referral. Go to the shop and make sure its clean and well organized.

If you have all this knowledge of how the security system works, why did you even post this thread? You understand how all the components work, but you don't know where the car's vulnerabilities are? That don't make no sense. Furthermore, ANY good security system is going to include a fuel kill. That right there suggest to me you really don't know what you're doing. The only exception is if you have an automatic, then you can get away with an ignition kill.

Here in NJ, we've had no less than 25 wrx's and sti's stolen in the last 6 months. A post like this over at NASIOC would get you banned in a second. The whole idea of this thread makes me want to puke.

Again, why would you ask in a public forum about the security vulnerabilities of your car?

It is an automatic and I will have a ignition kill.
Anytime the system is armed the ignition kill will be on.
There will be a magnetic switch to enable the ignition in case I don't have my remote.

No, anyone who could be described as a "thief" probably already knows how to get in your car. I am saying that a thief-wannabe might google this thread. "My neighbor has that hot MSP, I wonder how I could break into it to steal X. Let me check the web."

Think that scenario is unlikely? In one of the cars that was recovered in our area, they found printouts from the forums!
