After being in college for over 3 years, I started at Digital Media Arts College (http://www.dmac-edu.org) this January. I'm currently taking 6 classes...

For Modeling, I'm going to attempt to do my MSP in Maya, but I just started using it 2 months ago, so we'll see how that goes.

My drawing class is cool because I thought that I had no artistic talent at all, but my stuff is decent so far (I just can't draw people). Here's my favorite so far:

My design class is a load of fun too. These are the first 3 things I made:

1. owl (styrofoam)-based on metal owl jar with a hinged neck
2. vase (balsa wood)-based on ceramic vase made in Montserrat
3. dragon (wire)-based on oriental wooden dragon that I own (other 2 belonged to professor)

Nice, i know how that feels..I'm all about rendering and such..it covers up my lack of pencil talent.
Yeah, some of the rendering the grad students do here takes days, even with our dual-processor PCs. Guess I should have pointed out that I am a Computer Animation major.

I just turned in my latest design project yesterday. I spent nearly all spring break making it & couldn't have done it without a lot of help from my dad. If you've ever seen Titan A.E., you'll recognize it as a Drej Alien:

I've been drinking Propel for about 18 months now & I just kind of started saving the bottles without realizing it. The assignment for this project was to use "Found Objects", meaning everyday items taken out of context. My blue guy is about 6 feet tall & is made from:

Propel bottles
2 Powerade bottles
$6 rake
blue sponges
3 different sizes of vinyl hose
2 OJ bottles
1 of those big ass water jugs
cardboard from a shoe box
3 cans of Rustoleum Metallic Blue paint (would work well for engine covers or calipers, but I prefer Duplicolor Metalcast for that)
1 can of flat black paint
insulating spray foam
1/2 roll of masking tape

& it's all held together with hot glue, wire, & a whole bunch of zip ties.

The school wants to display it, but I already have an offer of $100 from my next door neighbor. :p

BTW, it took more than an hour to fit it in my MSP & was only accomplished by taking out the front passenger seat. The other problem I had was that the base blocked my grip on the shifter, so I had to shift 4th & 5th with my hand upside down (& it takes me an hour to drive to school  ).

I remember when we started doing architectural CAD renderings in our office 10-12 years ago, we'd have to let the rendering program run over a weekend to color one frame of a picture. And that was on a Compaq 486-33 that cost over 3 grand at the time, lol. Now we're rendering animated walk-throughs of our buildings; it takes us about 6-8 hours to render a two minute animation that we show our clients. I can't believe how far this technology has come.

Keep up thye good work Ryan. Your work is very impressive.

lots of fun. I have am a 3d amaimation major. well i graduated 3 years ago and got the degree now. You will love maya. Easy awesome program.

2 dollar by lb of plastic mold. machine is free at georgia tech

I dig the propel model. I have messed with Maya for about 6 months or so. It's an stright-forward design and easy to manipulate. I only started to realize it's power once I got the hang of simple and complex modeling. I'm no design student, so I am sure you'll wizz through it faster than I learned on my own. Great stuff BTW.

Thanks for the compliments.

noclue119: I will definately be contacting you when I'm done.

Thanks Ryan, I'm loving it. The welding shop that shortened it did an outstanding job. Squared the tip up right on the money and made a clean weld with absolutely no splatter. Here's a link where I've posted a pic, if you're interested:

Keep up the good work in school! You've got a bright looking future from what I can see.

Regards -

(rockon) I like your work. You guys make me want to change my line of work. One of my old roomates used to do a lot of stuff in Bryce 3-D. I played around with it a bit but just did landscapes and stuff with preset patterns and textures. My roommates web site is not up anymore but I might have some stuff around...
