Ebay CAI

hey Captian - how does that compare to a cai?
it is an SRI (short ram intake) like the AEM. A CAI like the injen extends the pipe further away from the engine, in the injen's case into the wheel well. an SRI is usually shorter, with less bends. It is hotly debated which is better (SRI with less bends argued as less restrictive, CAI argued as bringing air in from further away from the engine thus colder.) My personal take is that the gains you will see from any intake on the Protege will be about the same. I've had the Injen myself and ridden in a car with an SRI. For the price, I'd take the Ractive over the AEM any day of the week.

Just a quick update on filters.. I am in the process of waiting for mine to arrive now, but I believe the exact correct part number is RU-4450. Only $30.72.

There's the link. The people that are paying 55 dollars or such for them are either getting them from local stores, or they're buying the kind that has the inverse conical top.. The one with the intake hole in the top of the filter too. Since I haven't seen anything that is proof of more power with a reverse conical intake, I'm going to save my 25 bucks and just get this one. :) It's a 5" long intake. As far as I know, myndfi3ld's fits, you can also get the 7" long intake too apparently, which is # RU-3610.

I just ordered my EBAY CAI yesterday and would like to have my K&N filter ready to go onit when it arrives. does anyone know what size pipe they use for the LIVEONSPEED CAI? I sent a check to get the intake so it is going to be like 3 weeks almost till i get the thing. cant wait though. My muffler and headlight and fog light bulbs are already on there way though. (headbang) (wiggle) (yes) :D (drinks) (rockon) (spank) (cheers) (dance) (nana) (yippy) (p5yellow) (yellowp5)

Live on Speed intake.

The weird part is relocating the coolant thing. If you need better pics of that area let me know. Use the factory plate that holds the coolant thing and turn it around and bolt it to something, it sounds funny but you'll see what I'm talking about

Is it suspose to be done that way ??
There are no instructions and the intake cannot get passed the coolant thing so...um...sure..that's how it's supposed to be. ;)

nah i dunno if mine fits yet, IT STILL ISN'T HERE! I ordered from ajusa.com on March 4th and paid via paypal the same day. After waiting days for them to process the order they sent me an e-mail saying it would take up to 7 business days for the warehouse to process it, then I got a tracking number on the 15th, it was available for tracking the 16th, and as of yesterday morning it was at the West Hartford, CT usps.. which is like 25 minutes away I wish I could have just gone and picked it up from there. Look like I'll be getting it monday, I don't see why it wouldn't fit though.

I had to take off the factory bracket that holds on the coolant thing.. it wouldn't fit unless i dremeled part of it off. For some reason, maybe because I have an 03, mine didn't want to fit right on there.. It's fastened though pretty securely..

Yeah I ordered my K&N Filter over a week ago and haven't even gotten a tracking number or anything yet.. Prices were good but shipping is SO friggin slow...

Here's a picture of my engine bay.. you can kinda see how I had to use one of the twist brackets to remount the tank..

laser03pro I have used the ebay short ram, it was pretty good for the 28bux I spent on it,filter was cheap, the piping was fine and BIG and it was pretty damn loud.

Made the car seem to pull smoother and a little harder but I think thta was me just hoping that so much.

Now I have a custom CAI and I love the whistle sound on shifts.

If you could pick between the Ebay CAI and the Injen CAI which would you pick? Money does not matter.
injen because if money doesn't matter might as well get the brand name... and that way you don't have to go get a k&N filter (which i will write about in my next post)
