Spare Tire Bulge

Does anyone know what's under that big bulge in the spare tire well? I wanted to use it as air space for my a/d/s/ 12, but it's kind of useless with that thing in there. I'd love to cut it out of there, but from under the car, it looks like there's something in there...anyone know for sure?

Is that buldge that you're talking about, the buldge in the middle of the spare? If so it's just a piece of metal used to keep the spare nice and snug, with a thread in it for the bolt that keeps the spare in place.

Yup, nothing there. Cut that s*** out! :)

We must be talking about a different bump...from what I can tell from under the car, the fuel pump is in there...even if it IS empty space, cutting it out would leave a 12" hole to the outside. I guess I'm either making a really tall false floor, or I've got an a/d/s RS12 for sale.

I think the fuel pump is under there from other threads that I've read. How tall is your amp? How big is it? You can also mount it to the rear seats or to the sub woofer box.

Well, my idea was to build up a false floor about 2"-2.5" and use the spare tire cavity to build a fiberglass box and have the sub magnet drop down into that space...it's an a/d/s/ RS12, which has a HUGE magnet on the back, and is about 7" deep. The idea will still work, I just have to be really careful where I put the sub, and the false floor will have to be a little higher. I'll probably take the cover off and see if I can "dent" the bulge enough for some clearance around the sub...and I'll take pictures.

I attached a photo of the gear I need to fit back there (minus the TBAt (little box) which goes up with the head unit). It'll be a tight fit, but it should all go nicely. I'm going to do fiberglass tubs painted the same Black Micah as the car. I'd rather do silver, but I think the white gear would look funny on a silver background.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated...I'm still looking for inspiration.

hmm isnt the fuel pump under the back seat? it might be the bulge to keep the spare from moving every wich way. take a pic of what you are talking about...

You know what...PM Jrodhotrod and ask him how they did it in his car. he's got 3 8w3v2s in that tire well, and could probably do 10s with the size they got out of it. He'll be able to give you a good idea...but like I said...you can always attach the amp to the back seats or to a new sub box. it sounds like you're trying to save a bunch of trunk space, though, so Jrod can really help you with that. 1st Mp3 in NH actually has the plans for that set-up (Jrod's) because it was the first one he put in his MP3. :D

mmm... zapcos
ive still got a pair of 100x's that have been sitting in my room for the past 3 years... brand new! i really gotta get em installed sometime

Its not the fuel pump but there is certainly a pump of some kind under there. If you get under the car and look at it there is a plastic cover and once removed you will see there is defently somethingmounted under there.

The fuel pump is built into the gas tank accessed under the rear seat.
