What have you done to your Mazda5 today?

1st oil change on my 2012 Mazda5.
Are all these (at least on the 2.5l engine) using a spin-on filter? I remember the cartridge one from my 2006 and I hated it, bought the spin-on adapter.

Change transmission (MT) fluid. Prev. owner said he did that, given the character I re-did it regardless. He did but switching to a nice RedLine oil still made a very noticeable difference, for the better.

Changed coolant. There was blue in the overflow but a blue/yellow (very green) mix in the car.
Went with Blue because that's what I had bought. I'll do this again for a better flush in a couple thousand miles I think.

Sparkplug change revealed it's time for a new valve cover gasket. (Middle two were drowning in oil.)
One hole had a badly corroded plug with signs of water intrusion, all dry and discolored when I found it.

Ordered:
- Mazda OEM double-din adapter (part# C513-55231) for radio from mercari.jp.
- Foglights + stalk with switch
LF05-14-302B is the correct filter

Put fog lights on the car. NOS but TYC brand. Wasn't a fan of the gap between light and trim and made a gasket from some older high-temp hose, split length-wise. Installing the stalk with fog option was easy. That stalk also has an additional fog light option that can be triggered - no functionality, possibly for rear fog light?
Does anyone know where that bulb would be located? Was it even an option on US cars?

What have I done to our 5 this week? almost destroyed it. We had a snowstorm last saturday, so we went for a little drive on sunday morning and someone was plowing their driveway. It looked like all soft snow across the road, but it was solid ICE. We hit one of the chunks.....the result.

480.00 later, she's back on her wheels again.

That happens. One of the few things that are nearly guaranteed to break on our cars. That and engine mounts. Which, if you haven't replaced them, do so.

Now that you mention it, I think I replaced the engine mounts on our last 5. I need to get some suspenison parts too, but not sure what's out there now. Been a while. I know bilstien makes struts and shocks, So I may go that route as a base and then load with springs and OE mounting parts.

What is the ride quality like? The wife "owns" our rig, so she daily drives it. I have a F150 FX4 as my daily.
Well.. I like it. 😅

It's not that rough as you would imagine.
I have the shocks adjusted to about half way the stiffness.

And those 235/35/19 tyres doesn't help on smoothing the ridefeel.

My kids doesn't mind at all, but they have got used to that.
Some of my friends think it's too rough and too low. 🤷‍♂️

Put on front mudguards.

I think I'll check on the door sill cavity behind the fender liner about every other year.

It was packed with moist compost, leaves, debris. Not rust found, luckily.

Yes, I can see other modules and program them as well (if I trust the IDS options I see).

Bought it from the VXDAS shop.

I have to check out Forscan too, see what that's about.

Yesterday, I washed the car.

It's spring time and roads and sidewalks are been washed , so it's very dusty.. 🤦🏻‍♂️

And today I did do string aligment to correct my front toe-in.

I've changed front lower control arms last summer and after that the steering haven't been so good.

Starting point were 7,4mm toe-in left and 10mm toe-in right.
After couple adjustment I managed to get them toe-in on left 1,7mm and on right 1,5mm.

Now it goes as it should. 👌🏻

After 18 years, it's time to polished the headlights the easy way -by taking them out (jk). My HID headlight output has been gradually getting worst (kinda dangerous actually). D2S bulbs don't blow like halogens, instead they emit less light as they age.

The motivation was really to replace the bulbs but the OM says you are not suppose to replace the bulb yourself.... You absolutely can but it involves taking of the bumper cover and removing the headlights to access the servo/bulb; dealerships want to bill you for that.

FWIW, I shopped AliExpress for Phillips D2S bulbs (more half the cost) and while the seller listed a 'generic' pic of the box without the word 'PHILIPS', the actual product does and the base is etch Made in Germany. Given the overall quality (looks&feels good), my SWAG says they source the base from Philips but add their own filament/gas/glass -or it's a good counterfeit, time will tell. I do feel these are not as bright as OEM (based on memory b/c I recalled being WOW'd by OE HIDs, it was better than friend's cars with HIDs at the time) but I also did poor job in polishing the cover to get it crystal clear so I know I'm loosing some output. Overall it was a cheap DIY but for anyone who cars to keep their car, I recommend buying replacement headlight covers (they are cheap) to get 100% crystal clear lens.

String method is tried and true, cheap, but a bid of a hassle to setup 👍

You might be interested in this (ease of use on multi cars, compact, and accurate *enough*). Sensor in phones are pretty darn accurate these days.

I've been contemplating replacing the two headlight assemblies as the insides are pretty grimy but the motivation for all that ridiculous disassembly and crawling on the ground(I'm old) ain't there.and the cost, fitment, compatability for new units are all over the place. Can't imagine what a dealer or shop gets but suppose I can ask. Project prolly never happen : (.

While shopping in AliX for bulbs, you should have got also headlight vapor kit (if your lenses aren't cracked).

I have polished my headlights many times and they just come back to foggy.
It's not big deal, because swiping them again with a polisher isn't big deal, mostly can be done when washing a car.

But I did do my headlights with vapor kit last summer and they are still crystal clear.
I'm sold with that stuff.

Have to be extra carefully with protection when doing, because chinese haven't listed much of info about the liquid, indegrieds: resin etc. 🤣
