Well we bought it. I was searching hard for a used 2012 (which my wife liked better) but in the end got a way better deal on this brand new one. We bought it from Maita Mazda in Sacramento. No negotiating as they had it way marked down as their loss leader. Liquid Silver, Black Interior and 0 options. We drove down from Reno on Saturday morning to get it. My wife loves it and so do I. Its taken some getting used to as its much smaller than our Entourage we are now selling.

So far we have a whopping 290 miles on it. They topped off the tank and we headed for home saturday around lunch time and anybody who's made the drive from Sac to Reno up I80 knows its not an easy drive and almost all uphill. However after driving around town the rest of the day and then topping off the tank, it still got 28.5 mpg! not bad!

My wife has lovingly named it Ms. Shiftwell. (My 95 Nissan Pathfinder is named Sarge... our son loves the Cars movies). Here are a couple of pics at the dealer just before we bought it. It doesn't look like much yet. First thing on the agenda is some good window tinting once we sell our other car.
Glad to be a part of the Mazda5 family... should have done this 2 years ago!

Congrats! Ours is a sport as well but with auto and metro gray. We just passed 5000 miles and she's going in for her first oil change on Thursday (first one's free). We've been getting about 28mpg overall. Happy zoom-zooming! I've attached a pic of our new 5 with my son and also ours parked next to the in-laws new touring 5!

Very nice, I wish I had a manual, I miss so dearly. Miss it so much that I've been thinking about just taking a loss on my heavily modified Mazda5 and get a white MazdaSpeed3 Touring w/Tech Package.

I have the exact same model, 6spd manual Sport Liquid Silver w/ black interior. I'm at 2100 miles so far and love it. I'm seeing 24-25mpg in mixed driving. Have yet to make an all highway trip.

Heavily modified?? I'd love to know what you've done with it! Unless I've missed something I've only seen people post up about relative mild modifications.

Looks good, I also have a sport 6spd. Good fun! Mine topped 28000 miles last week and has averaged 28.6 over its lifetime. Update pictures as you go!

Way too much to type. Almost traded it in for a grey 2012 Speed3 Touring the other day but just couldn't. I may just stick it out few more years before thinking of getting one.

I'm just curious about the major stuff. Motor and tranny swap? Suspension? PM me if you'd like. I certainly haven't seen you post up anything regarding any serious mods in this section.

No no no, nothing major mechanically speaking. I'd like to, such as springs at and stiffer sway bars etc. but probably will not do that because I don't want to spend that kind of money where I can put aside for Speed3 instead.

OK thats what I was thinking. Saying your car is heavily modified then is very misleading. When relatively few of the original parts are in place, then its heavily modified.

That's true, maybe incorrect choice or words but the word you use also is rather... misleading... as well :P Anyway, back to where we were, car does have SOME ADDITIONS if you will, and some took some re-engineering but other than that, nothing "major" mechanically.

Very nice, the new Mazda5's design has grown on me so much. I had mine Dynamatted (except for the floor) but since then, every time I look at it, I am glad I got it (though I wished it was a stick and had the same engine setup as the MazdaSpeed3).

I would recommend you Dynamat the car and you will really feel the ZOOM ZOOM!

For those of you with the 6-speed manual, can you give me an estimate of what RPMs you're turning at 60 mph? We have the 2009 with the 5-speed manual and I've always felt like the engine is revving too high at 60; like 3150 rpm. But the strange thing is that it's still smooth. ?? I've always felt like it's needed an extra gear. Anyway, can you enlighten me on this information? Thanks.

6th on the 2012 is only 10% taller that 5th gear. I find myself constantly wishing they would have made 6th a bit taller, especially given the larger 2.5L engine in 2012. I have to double-check but according to calcs, it should be turning about 2300-2400 at 60 mph. For some reason, I get the feeling it's higher.

While I'm complaining about gear ratios, does anybody else think that the gap between 1st and 2nd are too large? In traffic situations, I often find myself at slow speeds where 1st is too short, but I'm moving too slowly for 2nd.

In the manual or auto? I got to drive the MZ5 for a bit in hilly terrain yesterday in our auto with 4 passengers and a full cargo hold and feel that the 1-2 gap is too great. This car could use a 6AT for sure.

That's with a manual. Maybe I'm used to closer ratio boxes, but I really expected 1-2 to be closer on a 6-speed.

Also, I doublechecked today, and sure enough my calcs were right, it's turning about 2300 at 60 mhp in 6th.
