What have you done to your P5 today?

Irridiums seem to work a bit better. Not sure if it's a hotter spark or what, but the car's doing better now.

Maybe a stupid question, but would you ever need to get a valve adjustment done on the P5?

Theres no such thing as hot spark or cold spark, and yes, its prob recomended if you have alot of valvetrain noise.
I never adjusted mine until 212k and didnt have any problems

Just a little cool weather and my rear suspension starts making all kinds of fun noises. If my car makes it through the winter it's getting new struts...

Cool. It just runs better, so there is some sort of reason for it I'm sure. Definitely a difference between irridiums and v-powers.

Thanks Just and Cheese for the help.

You have to buy a shim kit, and have feeler guages, then just switch out the shims with thicker/thinner shims until you getthe clearance within spec

Ok.....so what would eat up a nrw bearing in 2 months and less than 5k miles

I can think of a few things:
  • The bearing was incorrectly pressed into the steering knuckle (eg. pressure was applied to the inner race)
  • The axle nut was over/under torqued
  • The steering knuckle is bad, probably from the bearing's outer race spinning in the knuckle
  • s***-quality bearing

A bad bearing can also be a culprit. Had that happen once.

Got a bit tired of the look, so I did some stretching/pulling, added some chrome and gave her a new coat of paint.

does anyone know if the carpet for a sedan will fit in the protege5? i would like to replace mine this winter when the interiors out but cannot find a protege5 specific one.

yeah, it should fit fine. The only difference between the two cars occurs after the back seat.
