sliding door "bumpers" , loose or not?

On my 2009 there are 2 round sort-of-cylindrical widgets, about 25mm diameter, made of rubber or possibly plastic, on the front edge. I believe they are stops to keep the sliding doors from slamming metal to metal into the "jamb".

Last spring/summer I'd been hearing some noises from the driver-side rear door when on bumpy streets. Cleaning off the seals and rubber? bits on the door seemed to help, but noises have returned and I notice that these "bumper things" seem quite loose. I'm presuming they used to be more solidly attached to the door, but can't say i ever checked before. The method of attachment is not obvious to me, twisting them clockwise doesn't have the desired effect of tightening them up, so I guess it must not be as simple as some threaded screw-type thing.

Haven't been able to find any mentions of these things searching yet, so,
Finally, his question.... Are these widgets on your doors firmly attached to your doors or do they have "play" to them?

Or I could just wait til next month and compare to what's on the dealer's lot.

compare with the passenger side? maybe swap?
or check gap between rubber and pilar when door is closed?

Or just get a masking tape and tape the rubber temporarily. Then drive
see if noise disappears.

I'll check mine.

-- I checked.. the rubber in the pilar is 'loose' too. you can turn it move it up/down..it has an intended play.
I believe it only touches the pilar when someone slams the sliding door real hard. like when a friend
unfamiliar with the 5 closes it. There is a

I'll have to check if mine are loose, but stoppers like that typically are just popped into their hole. You could always tuck something in behind the shoulder of it. Does it actually rattle? I suspect your noise is coming from something else, but if you could ride back there while another drives, you could probably pinpoint the noise.

BTW, My wife mentioned a rattle a couple weeks back, of which I pointed out that if the seatbelts aren't clipped into their holder, they will rattle against the c-pillar trim. May take a look there.

would bet the rubber stops/pads just push into a hole with a flared insert to hold it in place. One may be cracked/torn from use or age. you might be able to get some new ones from the dealer or a parts store. you could try wedging something in behind the rubber stops to tighten them up, maybe some foam weatherstriping or something to keep it in place.

great minds think alike. The ones on the passenger side seem a bit more solid. I did the masking tape idea, not sure yet how much difference it made. And, i tend to agree with jimp, their just rubber, flared nub, stuck in hole.
I'll be in the vicinity of some test ride victims over the weekend, if there's not too much snow, so maybe i can rope one into assisting.
