2010 CX-9
Greetings all,

First, thanks for everyones posts. I have been lurking here for a few months reading up on this car. The forum has been very educational for research and reading of issues with the car.

We had finished paying off a 2006 Toyota Rav4 and started car shopping. We looked at the typical cars in this segment, such as the Ford Edge and Flex, Nissan Murano, Infiniti EX and FX 35s, and anything that we could get out and drive. We didn't look at the Rav4 again. While it has been a very reliable car (no maintenance other than oil changes and consumables for the 47,000 miles we put on it), it was such a boring car to drive.

After test driving the lot of them, we settled on the CX-9 and picked it up this weekend. I live in Northern Virginia and the dealership didn't have a huge stock, but they had exactly what we wanted.

We walked away with a 2010 FWD GT CX-9, silver, with I guess almost all the options (Nav, sirius, power lift gate, blind spot warning system, back up cam, sunroof, yada yada). No roof rack which we are good with. We never carry anything on top and we can always add later if we so desire.

Out of all the cars we tested, this one was one of the more fun cars to drive. I did like the Infinitis but the dealership was pretty far away from us, but the CX-9 offered more room which we liked. Plus we liked the styling of the Mazda better than any of them. When it came down to final choices, it was between the Murano and the CX-9, but my wife just did not like the interior of the Murano and I couldn't stand the exterior. To each their own I guess.

This weekend, I burned through a tank of gas after we bought it on Friday night, a bit over 20 MPG mixed city/highway driving. I was impressed. Planning to get some weathertech mats (this will be my 5th set I will order from them and they have given me discounts in the pass by calling them up).

Anyways, just for those curious, I got it out the door for $35,000, which was a bit more than I wanted, but they did give us more on the trade in of the Toyota ($13,500), we put down $9,900 and financed the rest with 0% over 60 months, but will pay off early. So all in all, our car payements are lower than with the Rav4 that we had. Insurance only went up 5 dollars per month over the Toyota, so not a big deal there.

The dealership was very nice. The only problem we had was on Saturday, we wanted to take a drive and when I went to enter the address in the Nav, it had disc A in the unit, and I needed disc B. Checked the glove box, and it wasn't there. So off to the dealership and they gave us the disc set from another vechicle and sent us on our way. I really like the Nav unit, even though I have read the complaints about it. The real time traffic worked nice, especially around I-95 warning us that there were delays. SO we just routed around it.

Hope we get the reliability from this vechicle that the Rav4 gave us. I am new to Mazda in general, so I am keeping the fingers crossed.

Thanks again for all the post and information that people put up here for the newbs to read. I am sure I will post more in the future with questions/observations, etc.

Thanks all.

Congrats! Just curious why you intend on paying off early--0% is free money.

Ehh, just habit I guess. You are right though, I can borrow their money for nothing. Just always got in the habit of paying off things early, so not based on anything other than what I was taught growing up :)

nice 0% instead of paying off early throw some into a CD or savings for some free money :D

Dang, are CDs actually earning anything now a days? :)

Hey, even at 1% I'm making something. Actually me and the wife are maxing out our retirements plans right now, so there is our nest egg, and none of that high risk stuff either.

Now, just have to prep the 14 year old for college. Community College FTW!

Good for you. That no-car-note feeling is truly liberating!

Kinda cool, but need four doors, not two. Living in Virginia, wouldn't have a convertible. Plus, my thinning hair and sun, not a good combo.... (sad2)

Although it does look better than the norm... guess that option will add to the cost even more.
