Fd wheels?

I am looking into getting a set of fd wheels to replace my stocks. i was wondering if i am going to need any spacers for them to work on my protege 5?

Depends a little on the actual tire size you put on, but I believe that if you use the RX7 size tire, which is like 235/50, you will need a little roll of the fender and a 5-7mm spacer to push it away from the strut. This is second hand, as it was a buddy that did it, and I am just trying to remember.

It is worth the little extra work for those rims and TONS of extra rubber.

i have a new set of tires i was thinking of stretching on them 195/45/16. The stock tire size for a protege 5.

Eeek, I'm doubt those would strech that far. The FD rims are 16x8...OEM P5 rims are 16x6...I am not a tire expert by any means, but I don't see that working.

oh i thought the stock rim size was 16x7. If so yeah no go.

The smallest tire that is safe for the manufactures specs I have seen were the Falken Azenis 205/45/16. I was going to get that but decided to go with 225/50/16 for my FD wheels. I had to roll my fenders and use a 5mm spacer for each corner. Also make sure that the wheel weights are no the ones that clip on to the rim. They gave me lots of problems the first time around. lol (get the sticky ones that go on the inside of the rim)

i have FD wheels on my protege, and the minimum spacer required is 3mm. and, thats just to bolt the wheel to the hub. because the bore shape is different on the wheels, you need the spacer to properly mount the wheel to the hub. the wheels will physically fit without spacers, but they wont mate correctly to the hub face without the spacer.

as for tire size, the narrowest tire i would consider is a 205. i run 215/45's and have no issue with clearance to the strut or fender. (i am lowered 1.5" front and rear too) i would suspect you could run a 225/45 without much difficulty, but that size doesnt have as many options.

dunlop DZ101's i think. well, something like that. size 215/45-16.

Yea im running 225/50 Potenza RE01Rs (not in picture) (those are dunlop sport 5000)

those 215s look good. I should have waited and got something in that size. (the RE01Rs where too good a deal to pass up. lol)

i was worried about having to perform a fendor roll, and i debated on what tire size i was going to use for over a year. it sucked having the rims in the garage and not on the car for that long, but it was worth it. my second choice would have been 225/45-16's. if i have the car long enough, and need to get new tires again, i might get that size. (now that i know i have some clearance)
