2002 Protege5
Hello folks,

I have seen many cool mods here, so I decided to share mine (thought)

Here is the link to a brief project description that speaks for itself

http://www.evalbum.com/2419

I'd be happy to answer any reasonable questions...

New look under the hood...

AWESOME!! Me and another guy were actually talking about doing an ev swap in a Protege5!! Great work!!

am I the only one who put together 50miles at 50 miles per hour for $18000? Just doesn't seem realistic and/or helping any thing.

The idea is to have around town / commuter car and never pay for gas again. Over 10 years of my battery lifespan you will spend several grand more on gas/oil/etc. Its not a short term win, its a long term investment in energy independence. At today's gas prices my car will break even in about 7 years with yours, but no one knows what the gas prices will be 2-3 years down the road, let alone 7-10 years from now.

Clearly EVs have a lot of shortcomings today, but we need to start somewhere, I think that even a sceptic can agree that gas won't be available forever....

hey, that's really cool! Definitely not something you see every day. Kudos!

I installed a 230V/30amp outlet in the garage, same type as used for electric water heaters and dryers. It takes about 8 hours for a typical nightly charge, taking about 20 amps from the outlet, costs less than $1 per day to run the car.

Your saying it cost you a dollar a day to run a 220 outlet for 8 hours a day? I have a hard time computing that? What is the life span of the batteries? Where is this electric energy coming from? Did your old engine have a hole in the block? If so could you not find another block for less then 800 bucks to re use? Rather then buy something new? What are you going to do with the batteries when they do die, which they will. What if you get rear ended? Are the battery acids caustic? And 18000 can buy a lot of gas, at the projected cost of 1500 dollars a year for gas you can drive for more then ten years on that. But you are going to be able to go much further. Since your limited to 50 miles a day you won't be taking it out of town for long trips where people rack on the miles.

Get a bike for 300 bucks and be 177000 a head, use your car, truck, or hummer when it rains or you need to haul stuff

who said he did this just for gas savings....sometimes its good to do something different...

I dont get why you think its necessary to give him crap....he spent the money, not you, so what the hell does it matter?

lol fail.....

but either way alot of the posters questions dont seem reasonable (Ie, why didnt you just buy a new engine, etc) and seems pretty useless in nature...

he does have some valid questions though.

oh well hopefully he can answer some questions.

thanks there chief....

considering I said

not all....

either way, thats enough...continue on.

Go buy a new phone.

The battery may last 2 days between each charge.

After having charged it for a year, it will last one day.

After another year it will last half a day.

After another, it will be leaking battery acid.

Sorry your investment failed.
Batteries do not last forever.

Honda is the only one on the right track with the FCX Clarity. That's if you even give crap and believe in the global warming myth. I do believe in conservation, but I am no tree hugger.
