Yeah, also check the bottom edge of your front doors and weep...Then type 'P5 rust' in the search engine of this forum and set aside a couple of hours...

On a side note, as far as the rear fender: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Fix-Rust-Spots-On-a-Car/

& for the hood, if you plan on keeping the car for a long time, get a rust free used hood in the same color from Cali.

jeez my car hasnt started rusting like that yet
when i had my stock hood i had maybe a little spot from a rock chip but never anything tht bubbles the paint like that

yes i got a nice bubble like that on my rear passenger side wheel well area :(

I'm lucky to be rust free, but i do have an ungodly scratch deep into the clearcoat on the side, it looks like a pirate dragged his hook hand across my door.

that will bubble out really fast unless you get it looked after....

i have rust in the exact same spot on the hood....it doesn't show too much with the dark blue but i know its there and it ain't pretty!

wat do u mean looked after?

Mazda 3 Rust?

I have considerable rust on my 2004 Mazda 3 - mostly around the rear wheel wells but also around the light on the trunk. Also bubbling in some places.
The Mazda dealer looked at the photos and estimate for repair and said it was from the outside, not the inside but I don't see how that's possible with these bubbles? sure looks like the moisture's inside tryin' to get out. Anyway - has anyone had any luck getting this fixed? suggestions? One body shop said it would be over $1000 to fix just the two wheel wells. ?????

Damn! You would've thought that Mazda would have sussed out rust protection by the time the 3 came out...The minor rust on my '03 P5 is the only thing holding me back from buying another Mazda.

I live in Canada and the winters here are brutal. I have rust on both rear wheel wells and along the running boards and its bubbling. Its not that bad but I want to get it fixed now. I brought it to macco to get an estimate and they said for it to be fixed and blended it would be roughly $1135. So i think im just going to get the rust fixed and the car re-painted to get a good clear coat on it and i just got the full clear bra for front, mirrors and bumper to add some more protection. Hope this estimate helps.

thanks for this info - I've been leaning toward getting it fixed and keeping it going as I've seen other mazdas go over 200K miles and I only have 115K. I'll ask about a clear coat and see what that does to the price. I'm seeing another dealer in a couple of weeks to see if I can get any help there. But it's getting worse by the day so -- gotta do something....
