I figured that title would get ya! ;) I can feel and hear the difference in the mount. There is a bit more motor vibration in the cabin. That "thump" that has been mentioned is there. What does seem different is the "thump" is there every time I start it up (so far, at least). I figured that was a one-time thing. Will that thump be there every time? As long as that's normal, I'm OK with it. But if it should have happened only once, what do I need to look at?

Yep, I don't like jack stands either. I use 'em when I have to, but I'd rather the vehicle hold itself up. Those 4x4's and the 2x12s aren't gonna collapse on me, so as long as I set the brake and chock the other end, I have no reluctance to crawl under an' play. Just so ya'll know, I can remove the ramps themselves and just leave that highest pedestal. That allows me to go up under the sides more easily.

I'd much rather trust my life to a set of jack stands or ramps engineered for hold a car than some wood the can crack (it's more likely than you think, I've had wood blocks between the car and a jack fail on more than one occasion) or that the car can roll off of.

Do you at least have some proper wheel chalks fore and aft of your rear tires?

The only stress on this wood is compression. They can't splinter or crack. This rig holds my Dodge Ram just fine. Those are 2x12s put together with Gorilla Glue and 2 1/2" deck screws. The bottom supports for the pedestals are 4x4 deck posts. Yep, the wheels are chocked and the brake is set as well as the tranny is in gear. I never use jack stands unless I have to remove the wheels.

I'd bet there are more instances of manufacturered ramps just collapsing. One of my co-workers had that very thing happen to him just loading up a Honda Accord.
