Yay for baby chicks! :) I love the little peep-peep sounds they make...

(former farm girl here...)

I miss my chicken. I got to take the one home we hatched in third grade. That thing was just like a dog. It came when you called it's name, played fetch, loved to snuggle, and gave us the most delicous fresh eggs I have ever had!!

I always wanted to have a chicken for a pet... my dad had a pet duck when he was little!!

My little sister had 2 ducks, but they were WAY more work than the chicken. The ducks just pooped EVERYWHERE!! They were cute, but, I think a chicken is a better pet than a duck

lol for some reason when you started "and gave us the most delicious" I thought it was ending w/ "chicken dinner"

lol

Really? For some reason, I figured chickens would be messier than ducks.

I have no idea WHY I thought that, though. Prolly wishful thinking, haha.

If ya got a yard with a pond, get a duck! They were constantly in the pool! Cleaning duck poo out of a pool everyday got very old. She gave them away rather quickly

my friend had a pet duck living in his house and it smelled awful.... also it had a weird zest for biting girls boobs, but im not sure if that was nature or nurture lol

if you thought for one second we were going to think there were a few babes in you post, you underestimate the brain power here!!! ;) they are cute though!

My mom just sent me a text message with the following attachment:

My folks get a new pair of ducks every year and constantly have a herd of 15 or so chickens running around. Great for keeping down the bug population during summer.

man chicks and ducks are fun when they are baby. I had 2 ducks in my old apartment, and very nice to have, but man they pop all over I had to keep them in the kitchen or balcony most the time.

the ducks are or the chickens? how much does that work? my moms always wanted ducks and is retiring out on a farm land in texas (lots of mosquitos)

The chickens to an extent, but the ducks much more so. Then again, the chickens are fenced in, while the ducks are free roaming. My folks originally purchased ducks to help take care of the ladybug problem they had years ago. I realize ladybugs are good for eating other bad bugs, but they literally had thousands of them crawling up the side of the house, into the basement, etc. The ducks took care of them quite quickly.

On second thought, she may want to try free roaming chickens for mosquitos. The ducks mostly scavenge along the ground, but the chickens will actually leap into the air to retrieve airborne insects.
