MS3
I a newb and have been trying the search and have come close but not exact. I am looking to purchasing 17x8/possibly17x8.5 wheels and 245/45/17s. Anyone know what kinda offset range i should be looking at? I'm going to do a fender roll(MS3). Pics and experience would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks.

Tig.

There is a guy on here with 18x8.5 in a 53mm offset. HE is the only one with an 8.5 rim so far.

i know its not what you're looking for, but just to give you an idea, im running 225/45/17 17X8 offset 48, dropped with H&Rs

well, from everything that i have been able to tell....

17x8 with 245/45/17 should work on the back for sure (meaning with a 45-50 and some fender luvin); however, the front is where it gets a little sketchy, so be careful with too high an offset. I was originally more concerned about the back until i put my friend's 18x9.5 ssr's (there are pics somewhere in this section, but i am tired and dont want to find the link i think that it is something about "19x9.5 for fun"...i digress). The one guy who is running 18x8.5 Wedsports has a 53mm offset, which puts the 235/40/18 on the front strut on the inside...so, you will definitely have to run less than 53mm...

So, if you want to run 245's you are going to have to buy the extra space to the outside because Mazda is not going to help you on the inside. I am definitely going run 18x8 wheels, but i am not sure what wheel, with what offset yet.

hope that is helpfull.

awesome, thanks for the quick replies guys.

haha it's all good man it's nice car to ***** around. What's the drop and spring rate on the HRs?

That is pretty damn close and i wanted to go 17x8.5. Is that something that can be fixed with spacers? I have zero experience with spacers, so jw.

These are the wheels i wanted to use with the 245s...http://www.wheeldude.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=56

According to a wheel weight site, they're 21lbs. Not far from a heffer, but i love the way they look...simple.

Anyone still have any answers regarding spacers. 245/45/17x8.5 with spacers on a fender roll...think it would work? I'm trying to get as many opinions as possible before i go guinea pig myself.

so i should be fine with my set up? or better off getting a spacer to be on the safe side...?

u dont need 8.5 to fit 245....8 is all u need...

dam 21 lbs, u might as well stay stock... plus they have wierd ass bolt pattern for universal type bs which i HATE big time....i think 245's is going to be a problem, when turning esp.

I think that if that guy is running 235's on an 8.5 with a 53mm offset, you should be able to run 245's (+10mm) with less than a 48 mm (1/2 of 10mm = 5mm and 53mm - 5mm).

However, i would probably try to find something with a 45 offset in that case.

...which, just so happens, i am searching for a 17 or 18 x 8 with a 48 or less right now...:-)

I've got a set of RX-8 wheels which are 18x8 with 225/40/18 tires. I use them for autocrossing and they fit very well. Though, I'd like to know if I can fit 235/40/18 without any rubbing issues. Seems like right now, the wheel/tire come close to the front strut...

I'd like to increase the tire from a 225 to a 235 because the 225 does not look right on the wheel; too narrow, I like the sidewalls to be square with the weel.

Thanks!!

**anyone know the specs for the RX-8 wheels?

RX-8 wheels...

18x8, +50 offset, 2 Manufacturers so weight varies (21-24 lbs). I am also running RX8 wheels (from my RIP RX8 :() with the stock tires 225x45 and when they wear out, I will be replacing them with 235x40 as the extra clearance between tire and fender will help some. I have NO rubbing whatsoever...

To the OP, I have a track ONLY set SSR Comp 17x8.5 +42 with 235x40 slicks... and I might have to roll the rear fender but not much... Since I am not planning in dropping the suspension, I don't have to worry about clearance at all...You should be ok with 17x8 with +48 offset and run 235x40.

Good luck,
Carlos

How do the RX-8 wheels compare to the MS3 wheels; backspacing, etc?
I know my stock MS3 wheels are 18x7...

Thanks for the info Carlos!! (2thumbs)

I believe this car should have originally been fitted with the RX8 wheels :) The 18x8 definitely creates a wider profile and the car is more planted on top of being a lighter combo.

The MS3 are too "tiny" for the power levels of this car. 18x7 +52 with 215... no way you call that a good amount of rubber :(

I have used these RX8 wheels pretty much since I got the car. The original stock wheels are immaculate in dark plastic bags in the garage. This means I have used these wheels for about 9K miles and have had NO issues whatsoever. I did a track event and 1 AX on them before I got my "track only" set.

Backspacing is not an issue, and even with 4 adults in the car with 1 set of wheels in the back + full tank of gas, I never rubbed...

Of course I plan on keeping my basic MS suspension, no drops or anything like that. Perhaps a set of sway bars but that's about it.

Use this tool, you'll understand wheels waaay more:
