My New 3

I just picked up my MS3 last week. I am loving every minute I drive in it. I have been reading this forum for a few days now, and I figured I would register and ask a couple of questions.

First off I am still waiting on the manual for the car as apparently someone stole mine from a previous test drive. I checked around for a PDF, but nada, so I have to wait for a new one to get shipped to the dealer. If you know where I can find some of the basic info on operating the car that might be good for me to know in the mean time I would appreciate it.

On a side note this is my first performance car, and I am by no means a car guru, but the reviews and the test drive sold me on the car. I would like to start building up my car knowledge though as it seems owning a high quality car like the MS3 requires at least some knowledge.

What are some good resources for noobs to keep me from killing my car without knowing it?

Finally, if you see a black mica speed 3 running around north Dallas its probably me :).

Later!

Chaz

Pics of the Carbon Fiber Trim

I got a 2007 Speed3 GT Black Mica. The only other black one even close to me wasn't willing to budge on price (it was a 2008). I think the carbon fiber trim kept people from buying the 2007, but I loved the car and felt like it needed a home :D

It is a little ricey, but not too bad. Check out the pics attached.

Welcome to the forum. You will find endless amounts of information here. I was a noob when I first started posting on this forum and I am still a noob. But, I am a more educated noob than I was at the beginning. Lot's of very nice and informative people on here. Good luck and enjoy the car!!(yippy)

Hmm that must be an extra option b/c I havent seen MS3's with the CF accents. To much CF for me but doesn't look bad I'm sure you'll enjoy the car can't wait to get mine :)

some basics

Heres a couple of things to keep in mind in those vital engine break-in miles.
-Dont use cruise control. It is best to put the engine under various loads to seat the piston rings which will help minimize oil blow-by and the car will have better compression when there are tens of thousands of miles on the motor.
-Dont run it to redline, i would go 4500rpm max till you're past 500 miles. Dont run the motor hard ever when its cool, wait a couple minutes to warm up.
-Dont turn the motor off right after a hard run, idle for atleast 30 seconds, some here idle before they get out of the car every time regardless of how hot the motor is.
-First oil change should be at 1000 miles and switch to full synthetic.
-Last but not least... the MS3 is durable. It will withstand some abuse so dont be afraid to use for what it was built for. Just do it smart and you will have a reliable car long after the warranty is gone.

Thanks for the heads up crystal!

I have probably gotten up abover 4500 rpm 6 or 7 times before hitting 500 miles (I broke that last night) but for the most part I was driving fairly conservative, so I hope that didn't hurt too much.

The oil change advice is good. The dealer told me the oil on the MS3 could get changed out every 5k miles, but to probably bring it in around 4k...

Either way I will probably follow your advice, do it after 1k for the first time, and switch to synthetic.

Congrats on the new car. I'm in North Dallas also and I'm pretty sure I saw you driving around a couple of days ago. I'm guessing you got your MS3 @ Freeman? I remember seeing a black 07 in front of the showroom with that trim. You should come out to our local meets, you can get the info at www.dfwmazdas.com

Welcome. I changed my oil first thing when I got it home with non synth. I am gonna go synth at 5000 miles.

Welcome.. congrats on the new ride.. the when to do the oil change and if it should be synth or not is a topic with way too many opinions....so long as you AT LEAST stick to what the owners manual tells you youll be fine...more often and better quality of oil wont hurt but if it helps is a topic hotly debated... do what YOU think and your wallet and environmental IQ tells you to...

That is odd considering the big 3 in the middle of the dash piece :)

I did some searching around. Apparently it is listed as an option, but isn't installed very often. If it makes you feel better I don't have an auto-dimming mirror, cargo net, or some of the other options most GTs come with :D

Hum that carbon fiber come with the car from the dealer? and the dealer didnt tell you that was an aftermarket add on done by them? Did you buy the car new or used? What else did the dealer forget to tell you? :D

Trust us: That interior IS NOT standard from Mazda and IS NOT an option from factory....

Not sure... check the appearance section and/or the sponsored vendor websites... real carbon fiber vs plastic "carbon fiber" look will cause price to vary significantly.. did dealer give you their window stickers? should have one from factory and another one with dealer add-ons....it should show their "asking" price for the option (at this point it really doesnt matter given you have the car already...just enjoy the ride)

The carbon fiber trim was installed by the dealer. ChazSpeed, if you have the window sticker the price is listed. It's been a few months since I saw the sticker, so my memory is a little foggy. I want to say it was somewhere around 7 or $800, but it was probably more.
