Mazda 5 2008
-New Engine (MZR non-turbo, 151HP)

I believe the only new engine available is the new 2.0 MZR DISI (non-turbo), it's being offered on the JDM Mazda5 already. With direct injection fuel economy should improve.

Speculation on my part, I think another engine upgrade is due possibly the new 2.5 liters that is going into the 2008/9 Mazda6.

They really need to go with the 2.5 DISI or the Diesel. They also desperately need to get Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control on the American model. I don't see anybody here blinking an eye at them adding $300.00 to the price if these were included. I honestly admit I assumed (yes I know what happens when you assume) that the 5 came with traction control. I mean my 2000 Saturn came with it, I figured an 06 Mazda had it, my mistake. I have always wondered if they offer other interior choices outside of North America? I am really starting to hate the black interior in mine from the cleaning and keeping clean perspectives.

By the way Jandree, any time you are feeling like the kid is getting to you, just think about having twins :). When one would wake up, the other one would wait for me to just be getting back to sleep before she would decide it was time to scream. When they were little I swore they conspired through ESP or something to make my life a living you know what. Most of my friends said that the thought of only having to take care of one while I took care of two made them feel just a little bit better about their state of affairs :). Just thought I would try and help.

I would say that these are the best years when they're small and manageable. I have three teenagers and believe me, I sometimes wish they were back in diapers.
A great man one told me this story from a parent's perpestive......When our kids are small we can't wait for them to walk and talk......When they become teenagers we just pray for them to sit down and shutup.

I'm in agreement about the ESC/TRAC omission, I'm sure it's all about $$$. Would I consider trading in my '07 for a newer 5 with ESC/TRAC and Karakuri seat? Hmmm...

The color combos I know of besides black on black and brown leather on black are beige on black and red leather on black (JDM Premacy). Fake wood trim I've seen in conjunction with the beige interior (Taiwan).

Ewwww to the fake wood. Just feel like the 5 is not that kind of car :). The beige trim is nice though.

@Opus
How old are your twins? Mine are 2 years old (2 boys, owch) and TBH, to date it's not that hard. But we have like a little angel and a little demon lol. The little angel sleeps no matter what, and the demon still wakes up at night. It's like this on everthing. One adapts to everything, since the other needs its routine...

@MazdaUnlimited

Those options are nice, but remember this is almost an entry priced car. I wouldn't mind though paying even 5 more grands for these options.
  • The traction control would be a must;
  • An engine upgrade also; the 5 is too fun to drive and could benefit a little more torque. Just add a turbo.
  • 4 wheel drive? For what?
  • Xenon - I clearly doubt it. Don't you see those on like 40k priced car and up?
  • Middle seat occupancy. I doubt it. Anyway I don't mind the 6 seaters.

P bouchr , my twins are two 12, soon to be 13 year old young ladies. They see the 5 as the ultimate girls night out vehicle since they can carry four friends but not feel like they are driving an "old" car. They are also the reason my GTO is gone :(.

4wheel drive is a great necessity and great option for people who want it. Xenon are cheap and not as expensive as you think. And when the japanese have it on many of the cars as mostley standard, there is no need to wonder why they can't they do it for a 5. Doesn't have to be a 40k car to have it. Just depends if we get it or not. Not to mention it improves visibility by a whole lot.

@Opus.
Well, luckily I have at least 10 more yeard to get there :)...

@ZoomZoom
Good one :-). Not nice at all. Plastic silver FTW!

@MU
I agree Xenon are cheap enough, but it's not entry level material lol. Though I completely agree with you and I don't know why it isn't .

OK, assuming Mazda has no bucks for a big foreign market model revamp in 2008, Can at least put an armrest to the right front seat? :D

The pic is for Japan base models. They may need to do something to the front cup holder-parking brake console area to make it fit though

If they have that, then the part to replace it might be for sale :). I for one can't understand why it would be on the Japanese model and not on the NA model?

Someone on here said the new 2.0 MZR engine will have 151 hp...that's wrong, its actually 148.7hp to be freakishly correct ;)

No your wrong, in japan they have 3 types of MZR engines and your number is still off.

First is there normal (1)MZR 2.0- 145PS@6000RPM, 18.5KG.m@4000 torque(2WD), 139PS@6000RPM 17.9kg-m@4000 torque(4WD)

(2)MZR 2.3- 165PS@6500RPM, 21.4KGM@4000RPM

(3) MZR 2.0 DISI (What i mentioned, and should get for 08)151PS@6200RPM, 19.7KG-m@4000RPM.

DISI- Direct injection spark ignition

Now that its straighten out, the DISI version should be adequate enough for our economy.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture or a link to a picture of the red on black would you?

I looked at the Premacy site and couldn't find it.

The JDM Premacy doesn't have a center console whose lid gets in the way of the passenger side arm rest. Suggested alternatives:

1. get an extra-wide black cloth armrest from this company which makes them for Scions, Acuras, etc. http://www.jjproducts.net/index.html

2. get a passenger side 2nd row armrest and bolt it to the seat frame, lots of companies make Scion arm rests that bolt to the frame which could probably be used.
