What did I break?

Can anyone tell me what this is that I accidentally snapped while removing my intake? Also, should I be spazzing out because it is broken? How easy of a fix is it?

aint easy to fix i can tell you that

Oh s***! that's the flux capacitor!
You're screwed unless you can find 100,000 gigawatts!

Um, not sure but I'm having a hard time figuring out how you broke that off? I'd suggest buying a new part. For a cheaper option you can try JB weld to stick the plastic nipple back onto the main body. Take it off the hose first.

its an 80 dollar air intake control valve from the mazda dealer is what it is

thats the Purge Control Solonoid - its part of your emmissions system. running the car with it broken, you will get a check engine light.

the part number is Z50418741A, and its $57.95 from OnlineMazdaParts.com

Yea, I was trying to take something off and my hand slipped and knocked into that.

Considering I have no idea what it is, I cant even begin to figure out how to order a new one.

Will it hurt anything to drive around with it broken until I can get the part?

I did the exact samething as you, I just attached the hose & clamp on to the bottom until I got a replacement, it worked fine like that for about 2 weeks until I got my hands on the replacement.

Ah the modern car - cheap except for the price. It might have added $0.50 to Mazda's price for the part if the hose fittings were made of metal instead of plastic. Of course if they did that they'd probably never make the insane markup they're going to collect when you buy a replacement.

For a temporary fix glue it and reinforce the outside. But I have a bad feeling about the stress on the weld point. Alternatively, it looks as if the buttress like flashing on the top and bottom of the tube that broke could be trimmed off, leaving a cylindrical stub. Then another small metal tube could be glued/clamped onto the outside of the stub, and the hose attached to that. The little tube could be reinforced by sliding a larger tube onto the larger diameter part that didn't break off, and fill the gap between the tubes with epoxy. If done right that should be stronger than the original part was.

I broke mine exactly the same. I just filed down those fins and attached the hose right on the bottom.

I'm not payin' $80 for that thing.

I got it attached on the bottom now, kinda rigged on there. I'll probably file it down in the next couple days for it to fit better. After my funding recovers from Christmas and buying myself a few new toys, I'll look into getting a replacement.
