I was wondering if anyone knew if a protege 5 exhaust system would fit on my protege dx
and if anyone would know a good cheap place to buy a decent one.
and does anyone know how much louder it would make my car because i dont really want it to be like all those hondas, i would really like something that sound cool but still quiet enough that it doesnt wake up my parents when i come home late

the only thing i am 100% positive that the p5 and protege sedans share is the axleback. if u get any type of exhaust that is intended for the p5, its gonna be shorter for instance this is a mazdaspeed axleback for the p5 on my 99 sedan.

is there anything bad about it being shorter and will it fit without any modifications?

the axleback goes right on. which is better is up to you. i like it better because the other axlebacks ive seen seem to hand down a bit. what are u getting a cat-back or an axleback?

I dont know i dont really know alot about cars and car parts and my friend just told me to buy an exhaust

Actually the axleback is the only thing not shared between the sedans and P5, because of the already-mentioned length issues. It'll all bolt up just fine, you'll just have to deal with the tip being shorter.

If you want looks/sound just get an axleback, it's much cheaper than a catback. A catback will get you more performance gains but lets face it.. there isn't much of a performance gain with anything on this car :P

if you want a nice sound then i would go with magnaflow exhaust, either axle back or cat-back, doesn't matter which one for sound, but the cat-back will give you more performance a little bit deeper sound.

if ur freind jus told u to buy an exhaust, dont spend money just for an exhaust if ur not gonna fix-up/tune ur protege. but if u plan to do so, its ALMOST not worth it to buy a catback.

Yeah i think what i really want is for it to sound better than all the idiots that drive hondas with huge exhausts

With just the Mazdaspeed axleback it'll sound pretty nice. You can also try finding someone with a Protege MP3 or Mazdaspeed Protege and buy their Racing Beat muffler. It has a really nice sound :)

so could i just buy the muffler and i would have the sound and it could fit right on the stock exhaust system?

and is a header hard to put in?
kinda sorta. I did mine almost on my own. Call me up or message me on here if oyu ever need help man. Im pretty familiar with these engines.

if u buy a universal muffler, u need to take it and get it welded, which will sound how u dont want it to sound. i have the mazdaspeed alxeback. if u get one of those, it has volume also, but it is a unique sound. it will bolt right on. what size engine do you have? once again if u jus wont the sound, buy the axleback, if u really want to pep the car up, buy an intake(unless u have a 1.6L, buy a simota intake from protephile). it will also give u a lil buzz along with power u can recognize.

i have an intake already
and its a 2 .0 L engine
is there any place that i can read up on how all this stuff works so i can understand it?

with or without the run to the auto store to buy new bolts cause I accidentally torqued the old ones off?

about an hour. without removing the radiator..
