Valve Cover Temperature

How hot do our valve covers get? Do you guys think 300 degree resistant paint would do the job? Or is at least 500 degrees a must?

Better safe than sorry is the theory I like to go by as well, but the problem is that I can't find any good looking yellows in the 500. They're all really light and nasty looking, but I managed to find a sweet yellow in te 300. Let me try this again, does anyone think the 300 is sufficient, or is there enough evidence to prove that 500 is the bare minimum that should be used? Thank you.

Buy both. Lay the 500 down first, and then the 300. If this isn't a good idea someone please correct me.

i dont think the bottom paint will have that much of an effect on temps. therefore top paint might fade or peel.

Yeah I figured as much.

Well someone could apply the 300 and if it starts to fade, crack or peal ... someone could mix some 300 with the 500 until the color is what they would prefer. Just to see if the added temp protection works and if not then settle with the 500. Not sure if this will actually work but say the temp on the inside is running at approx 350 then the 300 would barely chip off and with the added 500 it might just hold.

Thanks a lot everyone, your input definately helped out a lot. I figured it wouldn't get much past 250 degrees or so but I definately agree on using the higher temp just in case. If anyone knows where to get a good looking high temp yellow, like the one in the attachment, please let me know! Thanks everyone!!!

I want to be different and tell you to buy the 1000 degree paint.
I've only been able to find the 1200 paint in a few colors like black, red, silver, and blue I think. That would be my preference as well, but I'm really set on yellow for this project.

Hmmm, that sounds like it might make sense, but how do you mix spray paint? Put on one, then the other, and keep switching back and forth or what?
