yeah do tell about the steering wheel. I have been wanting that and i think it goes good with all the other silver in the car, and its cheaper than the 400+ that the mp3/msp wheel costs.

I like everything but the shifter. It seems a little to much silver down in that area of the center console. Maybe a black shift knob?

Great work though, looks like you did a very professional job.

"How to" is a definite for the steering wheel.

From the thumbnails you posted it looks good. Just post some better and bigger pictures. Thanks.

Thanks Alot

Thanks for the positive feedback. I will do break down of the process by tomorrow.

I must tell though i just did it today, so as far as longativity and quality of the dye is yet to be known, but leather is better to dye than vinyl is so it should be ok.

Steering wheel Dye

Well the first thing to do is get a vinyl/leather spray dye.
I'm sure if you go to your Performance automotive store you'l find it. I really didn't use any specific brand.

Then you have to remove the steering wheel, and this is where the tricky part is. You need a pulling device that attatches to the wheel, called a "puller". Make sure the your wheels are straight before removing the steering wheel so you can place the wheel back into the right position.

After you have the wheel of make sure that you clean the section to be dyed using a degreaser f some sort.

Then make sure you tape off want you don't want sprayed.
The better the tape job the better the result.

Hang the wheel in the air using a wire.
It is important to know how to spray properly. Never spray in a continous motion, always in strokes as evenly as possible, first one way followed by the other.
Light coats is important. 3-4 coats i thought was sufficent.

After you feel that the wheel has been covered to your satisfaction, which means a uniform clolor throughout the wheel,
Use a clear coat spray with a "satin" not a a gloss finish to keep it looking like leather still.

Then wait to dry a couple of hours and done.

if you need to see pictures of the tool needed to remove the steering wheel let me know.

Hope this helps

Paint for dash

The dash piece infront of the passenger was a b**** to remove so you know what i left in there and taped of the inside of the car.( i know crazy but hey it had to be done.

to be honest you can use any good quality spray paint for plastics Tremclad is a good one. Folia Tech is the best but it also costs the most which i find isn't necessary.

When using silver it is manditory to use a clear coat or else it will rub off. To be safe I would use a clear coat on everything just to be sure.

Also make sure that what you paint is free of grease, armor all etc. Clean the parts using a degreaser and a scrubbing brush.

Knowing how to spray in also important, light coats at a time.
Do not spray in a continous motion.
Putting thick coats at time may cause peeling and loss of texture.
