Its not that I couldn't do it myself...its that this saved me a weekend worth of work and only cost and extra $50.

I'm thinking about powering them active off a DLS CA51 5 channel amp and using the 5th channel for a small sub under the rear seat or some eD 6.5" subs in the rear doors.

Yes yes, I know...I'd love to continue my boycott on eD but there aren't exactly a slew of 6.5" subwoofers to choose from on the market that have a decent XMAX and work well in IB enclosures.

Right now I'm leaning towards an 8" sub in a sealed enclosure or possibly building a custom midgate for the truck to hold a pair of 8"s or 10"s and the amp in the center (easily removable with quick-disconnects of course). However, that is a big undertaking. JL Audio has a stealth box with 2 12w3s but thats a little over kill for my dad and its outragously expensive. There is another stealthbox knockoff on the web that uses earthquake subs but people have claimed it sounds like ass. There are several under-the-seat boxes to choose from but then I wouldn't have a place to mount the amp.

So as you see, a pair of eD EU-700s for $100 plus an additional $100-200 in sound dampening material sounds like a cheap way to get reasonable bass into my dad's truck. Compare that to the $1300 price tag on the JL stealth box and he's getting a sweet deal.

What exactly are the xmax measurements? and moreover, how accurate are eduh's specs? There IS always adire's with their TRUE 13mm xmax. mosty, umm, it's ******* eD man...(nuts)

Well I've been doing more research and found a few people who tried IB EU-700s in doors. The consenus is that it has about the same output as a single 8" in a sealed enclosure. One guy with an xB said they couldn't compete with a pair of sealed 8"s under his seats. Since I know I can get a single 8" or even a single 10" under the seat of the truck I might as well go that route instead of spending a bunch of time and effort on the doors only to get marginal results.

The JL 6W0 was another option but I know people have not had luck with those in IB enclosures.

Never heard of them...but it fits the bill. What's the mounting depth?

I've been looking at photos of other people's Avalanch installs and it looks like building a midgate is pretty straight forward. Now I'm thinking a pair of 8"s or 10"s and the amp can be easily installed in a midgate that can be quickly removable or at least it will fold down without getting in the way. Check out the photos below. I wouldn't do a split gate like this guy but he's got the right idea with regards to the box.

Man, I am Mr. Bargan hunter today. So I paid $215 for the front stage. I gave the same seller another $35 for a NEXT 10" 200w subwoofer. He entised me with free shipping since it would fit in the box he was already sending me. Then I found another seller on diymobileaudio who happened to be selling this...

$120+shipping and it puts out 53w x 4 + 120x1 (75x4 + 200x1 @ 13.8v RMS). The only flaw is that its crossovers are not adequate for 3-way active. I'll have to get a 3-way crossover to complete the setup.

So here's what my dad is looking at for a bill:
Speakers: $215
Sub: $35
Amp: $135
X-over: $50?
LOC: $30 (PAC makes a unit that gives me true line-out)
Wiring: $40
Install: $50 (MDF, vinyl, and truck bed-liner)
Total: $520 maybe less!

Let's not forget the most important....

Son with the knowledge to do the work: PRICELESS

BTW looks good. Can't wait to see the finished project.

look at morel for the 6.5 sub also. anything but eD...for the love of god...buy some pyramid gold before ed.

Yeah, I decided to go with a single 10". I'll have to make a custom midgate but that should only take a weekend if I have everything ready. The plan with this install is keep it simple and make it fast to install. I can't have his truck in pieces for more than a weekend or two so I'm hoping to start the midgate one weekend and get all the necessary measurements and test fit the pieces that need an exact fit. Then I take everything home, assemble it, finish it (vinyl, carpet, etc), and the next weekend I can install it and run all the wires.

So I have everything but the crossover in my possession now. This is going to be a sweet install... Budget will prolly be under $500 still.

I don't think I ever posted completed pics of this so here goes...

Equipment
Everything except the wiring was purchased from members of diymobileaudio.com to stay within a $500 budget.

Amplifier: NeXT 5-channel 4x30 +1x200 ($145 shipped)
Subwoofer: NeXT 10" ($30 shipped)
Speakers: Dayton Woofers, Seas tweeters, with pods ($215 shipped)
Crossover: PPI X3 3-way crossover ($26 shipped)
Interconnects: Short runs made from CAT5 and Street wires end caps ($13 shipped). Long runs purchased from KnuKoncepts
Other wiring: purchased from KnuKonceptz
Total thus far: $429.

I think the order was about $50 from KnuKonceptz and I spend $50 on a PAC OEM-2 line out converter (could have got one cheaper but I wanted it to be plug-and-play). Then I spent a little more for supplies at Parts Express, Home Depot, and the local fabric store. So the total was probably around $600. Of course, it is wired and ready to go if/when my Dad wants to upgrade the head unit (currently the weakest link in the system).

Ok ok, enough with the mumbo jumbo, How about some pics?
